The Best Samsung Galaxy Cases

Last Updated:

The best Samsung cases will protect your phone from damage that is easily avoidable. You see, the Samsung Galaxy phones are tough, but they are also vulnerable to all sorts of damages - unfortunately, your gorgeous, glistening screen and body can crack in a fall or be crushed underneath particular types of weight.

And when it's a fresh phone, especially the latest Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ the last thing you need happening to your beloved device is a drop that can damage the body. That's why you need a rugged case. A protective case. An armor case that will - hopefully - guarantee an impenetrable defense for your cell phone. You'll especially need a case if you want to maintain your phone's condition for trading purposes.

So, if you've decided on owning a smartphone case, you're probably curious as to what smartphone case you should purchase. What is the best defense for your dollar? What case offers the best protection for your Super AMOLED display?

We've reviewed the top five cases for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ in this buyer's guide. We also included some honorable mentions for the S7, the S7 Edge, and the S6, which are still all popular phones.

The Best Samsung Galaxy Cases

Caseology Vault II Review

  • Pros
  • Inexpensive
  • Easily removable
  • Sleek and attractive design
  • Decent textured grip
  • Slots allow for easy access to ports and fingerprint sensor
  • Cons
  • Grip could be more rubberized
  • No customization options

Need military-grade protection? Corner drop protection? Light-weight design? Then you should consider the Caseology Vault II Galaxy S8 Case. The case features a sleek and slim design, complete with fortified corners - in fact, these cases have been drop-tested 26 times to ensure that your Galaxy S8's safety. Not only that, but the case is easy to use. All you need to do is slip the case on and it will click.

When it comes to protection, you cannot go wrong with this product. Most customers vouch for its design, praising the responsive button covers, the raised front lip and camera bezel. However, some customers have complained that the grip could be more rubberized.

But the best part about this case is that it's incredibly inexpensive. While "you get what you pay for" is often true, that's not the case with the Caseology Vault II.

Samsung Clear Cover Review

  • Pros
  • Easy installation
  • Four colors to select from
  • Ultra-slim with see-through protection
  • Durable
  • Cons
  • Tends to gather a lot of lint and dust on the corners
  • Does not offer much in the way of drop protection
  • No screen protector

Love your phone's design and can't stand the thought of covering up said design with a phone case? Well, you won't (exactly) have to, thanks to the Samsung Galaxy S8 clear protective cover. This easy-to-hold case offers see-through protection, courtesy of the polycarbonate shell. Furthermore, because this accessory is officially from Samsung, you'll have a perfect fit for your Samsung Galaxy S8.

Not only that, but you can find the fingerprint sensor on the back with ease thanks to the implementation of a separate cutout for the camera. Unfortunately, while the material is durable, that doesn't mean it will protect the phone 100 percent. Sadly, you may run the risk of drop damage, especially with the screen, as the screen is not protected.

So if you're the careful type, you should definitely consider the Samsung Galaxy S8 Clear Protective Cover. However, if you're more accident prone, you should probably steer away from this case.

Samsung LED Case Review

  • Pros
  • Five colors to choose from
  • LED notifications are a nice touch
  • Card slots via interior pocket
  • Allows you to swipe the cover when answering or rejecting calls
  • Cons
  • Does not offer the best protection
  • Cover runs risk of cosmetic defects (minor scratches)
  • Expensive

This official accessory sticks out like a sore thumb, focusing on the concept of "fun." And it is fun.

The point is, while this case is expensive, it is incredibly stylish, featuring a LED face on the flip cover. With the flip cover LED face, you'll be able to not view and receive LED notifications but also respond to incoming calls or alarms simply by swiping on the cover.

That's right. Swiping on the cover. Additionally, you can designate specific LED caller ID icons, so you'll know exactly who is calling you.

Furthermore, you can store credit cards, IDs, and more with the interior card pocket (just don't lose your phone). Finally, your phone will automatically sleep when the cover is closed and wake when the cover is opened.

Overall, the Samsung S8 LED view wallet case is a stylish, smart cover. However, while the cover sports amazing functionality, it won't offer fantastic protection for your phone. This case is highly recommended for those who are cautious with their phones.

Samsung S-View Review

  • Pros
  • Screen access to critical information when cover is closed
  • Ability to accept or reject incoming calls with a swipe of your finger
  • Built-in kickstand so you can view landscape media easily
  • Works with wireless charger
  • Strong protection
  • Cons
  • Can scratch easily
  • Is not fingerprint resistant
  • Expensive

The Samsung Galaxy S8 S-View Flip Cover is an impressive official accessory. You'll be able to see the entire front cover, but even better is the built-in kickstand, which allows you to view landscape media, like YouTube videos.

With the S-View interface, you'll be able to read the date, time, weather, location, and any missed notifications. You'll also be able to accept or reject incoming calls with a mere swipe of your finger. Not only that, but you can end the call, mute your voice, or switch to speakerphone while on the call. All from the cover, which is a huge plus for many. Furthermore, this splendid case does protect your phone (and super AMOLED phone screen) quite well from falls.

However, while it allows you to access many of the essential phone features, it does have a few flaws. For one, and understandably so, the case is expensive. Two, the cover is easily scratchable. While there are those who don't care about this flaw, there are those who would hate to see their shiny accessories with visible scratches. Overall, while this case is a little pricey, it's certainly worth your dollar.

Spigen Neo Hybrid Case Review

  • Pros
  • Trademarked herringbone protection
  • Easy removal
  • Precise cutouts for easy access
  • Eight colors to select from
  • Cons
  • Design may feel a little awkward
  • A little on the heavier side
  • No slip-resistant backing

The Spigen Neo Hybrid case a top-tier product and for good reason. For one, it features a slim, dual-layer, military-grade structure complete with TPU body and polycarbonate bumper frame.

Furthermore, it offers precise cutouts for easy access to buttons and the fingerprint sensor. Additionally, the case sports raised lips to protect both the screen and the camera. Not only that, but the frame is fingerprint-resistant.

And if you need customization, say no more. Though other cases may offer a few color options, you'll be able to select among eight colors. Overall, with the trademarked herringbone protection, easy removal, and color options, you'll no doubt be satisfied with the Spigen Neo Hybrid.

Key Considerations Before Buying a Samsung Galaxy Case

Okay, so the protective case won't exactly help a phone when dropped into a toilet (fun fact: Allegedly, 19 percent of people drop their smartphones down the toilet). We totally get that, but you'll still want a phone case for when your phone slips out of your pocket or even your own hand. After all, it happens. It's an accident. Simultaneously, you may regret that accident if your phone ends up landing on concrete, asphalt, or even a wooden floor (I can vouch for the wooden floor. I did regret not having a case).

Nevertheless, when you select your very own case, you'll have to take into consideration a number of factors that could affect your purchasing decision. Here are just a few that should be taken into account as you shop:

1. The Case Material

This is the most important factor to keep in mind when selecting a rugged case. What is the case made out of? Is the case a polycarbonate shell? Is it silicone?

Plastics, however, are one of the most used materials for cases. Why? Because plastic is inexpensive, meaning that the case won't devour your wallet. However, that doesn't mean that plastic material is ineffective. The plastic material can help protect your phone from scratches and cracks quite well.

Do keep in mind, however, that there are several different types of plastic materials. However, the most common type of plastic material for phone cases are polyurethane and polycarbonate (polycarbonate is much stronger compared to polyurethane, by the by).

There are also carbon fiber, wooden, metal, silicone, and leather cases to look into. Some case materials, like leather case material, do not feature the best protection but instead serve as a more stylish accessory for your phone.

2. The Coverage

A cell phone case would provide top-tier coverage for your phone.

The coverage you need may depend on how you normally handle your phone. Are you extremely clumsy? Do you tend to drop your phone often, say, once per day? If you are typically careful with your phone, then you'll probably want a light, plastic case. However, if you tend to drop it left and right onto rocks, asphalt, and concrete, then you'll probably want a heavier case that covers most of your phone.

Let's take, for example, a rugged case or an armor case. Rugged cases are bulky and fairly heavy, but they provide you with the additional padding you'll need when protecting your phone. However, with such heavy padding, you'll be having a harder time stuffing your phone into your pocket - well, unless you have big pockets. With that being said, the rugged case covers every angle of your phone, including the buttons and touchscreen. Of course, a screen protector could also mean decreased touch sensitivity for your phone. Overall, while you have fantastic coverage and thickness with a rugged case, you'll face the difficulty of having no easy access to your phone.

So when it comes to coverage, choose what you need based on how you typically handle your device.

3. Attachability

As mentioned in the previous factor, if you choose a bulky case, you probably will more than likely have a hard time fitting your phone in your pockets. In that case, you'll probably want to attach your phone to somewhere on your body.

This is where attachability comes in. You may want to select a phone case that sports a belt clip or some other attachment for on-the-go carrying.

4. Customization and Design

What type of design would you like? How would you like to customize your case? Customization, after all, is key to expressing your personality. Some cases feature a variety of colors and designs that you can select from. Some cases sport additional features that serve to be helpful. Let's take, for instance, the wallet case or folio case, complete with card slots.

A wallet case/folio case allows people to store their cards, cash, and other items into a case that wraps around your cell phone. And while card slots are an amazing inclusion to a folio case, there is one disadvantage - if you lose your cell phone, you'll essentially lose your wallet. Another case type you may want to be on the lookout for is battery cases. Battery cases not only protect your phone but also add extra battery life to your device.

A wallet case/folio case allows people to store their cards, cash, and other items into a case that wraps around your cell phone.

5. The Pricing

The pricing is also important. Just remember that cheap doesn't always mean high-quality - in fact, it hardly ever means high-quality. So when you're looking for a phone case, even a cheap case, be sure to read the consumer reviews before deciding on a product.

Honorable Mentions

Spigen Slim Armor Galaxy S7 Edge Case

Looking for a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge case? You certainly should take the Spigen Slim Armor case into consideration. This case sports air cushion technology, a kickstand for comfortable landscape viewing, dual layer protection (TPU interior and polycarbonate exterior), and a 1.4mm raised lip.

Most people have had great experiences with this case, though some have complained that the kickstand isn't of fantastic quality.

Galaxy S7 CaliCase Premium Thin Case

If you need a thin case for your phone, then you can certainly consider the Galaxy S7 CaliCase. This super thin case is only 0.35mm thick, making it one of the thinnest cases on the market.

Furthermore, this fingerprint resistant case features neat cutouts, granting you easy access. People have touted the case as perfect for those who prefer thin cases, but it's not 100 percent protective of your phone. In other words, if you drop your phone, you may suffer a little bit of damage.

OtterBox Defender for Samsung Galaxy S6

Ah, OtterBox. OtterBox is a household name and for good reason. The Defender Otter Box for the Samsung Galaxy S6 is touted as one of the best cases for the S6 available. The case offers drop protection, dust protection, screen protection, scratch protection, three layer protection, easy installation, and side texturing for a reliable grip.

Not only that, but this case, being a little bulky, includes a belt-clip holster for on-the-go protection. Customers have praised the Defender for its coverage, which protects the phone from drops, dust, and dirt. Not only that, but buttons are easy to press with this product. Overall, the Defender is a top product for the Galaxy S6.
