5 Reasons to Sign Up for the Discover IT Card

There are a whole host of players in the world of credit card rewards, and some of the biggest issuers out there are Chase, Citibank, and Capital One. However, Discover recently threw its hat in the ring with a perfectly-timed cash-back card of its own- the Discover IT card.

Beyond having excellent U.S.-based customer service, the Discover IT card comes with other perks such as 0 percent fraud liability, a free FICO score on your monthly statement, and no over limit fee. But that's not all. Here are five more reasons the Discover IT card belongs in your wallet:

#1 Attractive Rewards

Similar to the Chase Freedom card, the Discover IT card offers 5 % cash-back in categories that rotate every quarter. For example, cardholders earned 5% cash-back at gas stations July through September of 2015, and 5% cash -back at online and department stores from October through December of 2015. Cardholders earn the standard 1% cash-back on all other purchases.

#2 No Annual Fee

A lot of rewards cards spoil the fun by charging an annual fee to users who choose to keep their card past the first year. However, the Discover IT card is different. Once you sign up for the Discover IT card, you never have to worry about paying an annual fee or deciding if the rewards are worth it. You can keep it in your wallet forever if you'd like- at no charge.

#3 No Foreign Transaction Fees

As if the other perks weren't enough, the Discover IT card can be used all over the world without incurring a foreign transaction fee. Since many cards charge 3% or more for overseas transactions, this perk presents a huge value for cardholders who travel out of the country frequently.

#4 0% Interest on Balance Transfers and Purchases for 14 Months

Individuals carrying a high interest balance should seriously consider transferring to a balance transfer credit card like the Discover IT card, if only for the ability to pay 0% interest on the balance and purchases for 14 months. Depending on the size of the balance, this temporary respite from high interest rates could lead to hundreds of dollars of savings, a faster payoff date, or both. However, please keep in mind that Discover does charge a balance transfer fee equal to 3% of each transferred balance.

#5 No Late Fee for Your First Late Payment

Most people would never pay their credit card bill after the due date. But, as we all know- things happen. Fortunately, the Discover IT card lets it slide the first time by offering up one free late payment without penalty. Hopefully you'll never need this perk, but it is still nice to know it exists if something throws your payment schedule out of whack.

The bottom line is this:

The Discover IT card offers an excellent value for those who want to earn cash-back without worrying about annual fees, foreign transaction fees, or too much fine print. And with 0% interest on balance transfers and purchases for the first 14 months, it's hard to think of a reason not to sign up.
