Getting older isn't all bad when you put it into perspective. I'm sure we've all heard the notion "the older you get the wiser you become," for example. Luckily, old age comes with more than simple wisdom; it comes with cash benefits.

Types of Senior Discounts
There are various types of senior discounts out there for anyone who meets certain age requirements; age requirements generally differ depending on the company you're dealing with.
Here are the types of senior discounts available:
- Travel and Vacation Discounts
- Retail Discounts
- Restaurant Discounts
- Health and Medicine Discounts

Who is Eligible for a Senior Discount?
Eligibility for senior discounts really depends on the company you're dealing with. For example, senior discounts at the movie theater may require you to be 60+ while an airline may require you to be just 55.
In comparison, certain companies like AARP (American Association of Retired Persons) and AARP's competitor AMAC (American Association of Mature American Citizens), start senior discounts at the young age of 50!
If you're an AARP member or if you become one, you'll have access to more discounts and benefits than you'll know what to do with. A membership only costs $16 a year. AMAC dubs itself the conservative version of AARP and will give you access to a whole other slew of benefits for the same $16 price per year.
It never hurts to ask about a senior discount if you're 50 or older, whether you're out to lunch or booking your next big vacation. I recommend also calling ahead to make sure your local stores and restaurants participate in senior discounts. You might as well take every advantage you can get for getting older, right?
