Best Ways to Book a Hotel Room Last Minute

One of the best ways to save money on a trip tends to be by booking your travel arrangements in advance. Advance preparation means that you are able to scour sites and pick and choose just how much you want to pay for your hotel room. But sometimes, life gets in the way and you find yourself in need of last minute hotels. Luckily, you aren't the only one. So many travelers have found themselves in need of a last minute hotel room that a wave of websites and apps devoted to last minute travel have popped up to help people find accommodations.

Many of the top hotel booking sites have last minute deal sections where you can save money by booking rooms that hotels are trying to fill. However, there are some smaller sites and apps that are devoted to last minute accommodations.

Using Last Minute Booking Apps

Calling a hotel at the last minute almost guarantees that you will pay a higher price for a room than if you had booked in advance. Using an app can help improve your chances of finding a room without calling around and wasting time and saving money.

Hotel Tonight considers itself to be the original in last minute booking. The app is easy to download and lets you book hotels as soon as tonight, or as far as seven days in advance. In fact, Hotel Tonight says that you can book a hotel in as quickly as 10 seconds. The other benefit is that Hotel Tonight has a variety of price points, so you can choose to stay in a standard hotel or luxury accommodations, as your budget allows. The app is also international, which is a big plus as many similar apps focus only on a select country or continent.

Using Last Minute Booking Websites

Travelocity owns and operates, which not only lets you find hotels at the last minute, but also other travel arrangements as well-even tickets for entertainment venues. Because it is a website, its easier to find more information about your hotel and how things work than the app versions. And because Travelocity, a major travel site, runs it, it also offers additional discounts and promo codes on occasion. You can also find packages and pairings, so if you need a last minute flight to go with your hotel, you're all set with the one stop shop. also offers everything related to last minute travel, from hotels to car rentals, but works more like Priceline, so you don't find out the actual name of your hotel until you book it. also has packages and promo codes but you may find that some of the prices vary from the originally advertised price on your initial search.

Major booking sites like Expedia and Kayak also offer last minute bookings and travel deals, so they are worth taking a look at as well. Expedia offers last minute options for Tonight, This Weekend and Next Weekend, so you can decide just when your last minute travel will work best for you.

As with booking any travel, doing your research is key as the prices on both apps and sites can vary for the same hotel so its worth downloading multiple apps and checking out more than one or two sites.
