I wouldn't recommend wasting time bidding on jobs with sites like Freelancer, Upwork, or Flexboard. In my own experience, such bidding job boards pay too little for valuable time and writing. If you're not having any luck, do some research on local companies and email them to explain why they could use your writing skills.

Check Indeed and Craigslist for positions in your area. Just make sure to research the person or company before doing business with them; Craigslist deals with a lot of scams. You should also subscribe to quality job boards like Freelance Writing Gigs and Problogger as well as newsletters like The Morning Coffee Newsletter for jobs straight to your email inbox.

2. Virtual Assistant

Pretty much any task that can be done online can be done by a Virtual assistant without leaving home. Some such things usually bookkeeping, scheduling, accounting, responding to emails, website design, marketing, and writing.

If you're going to commit to a virtual assistant job, make sure you have a reliable computer, backup system, and the best Internet connection. Check out the best cloud storage and the best online backup to make sure you don't lose any information on the job.

3. Freelance Proofreading

4. Freelance Editing

Did you know editing is different from proofreading? Proofreaders check for grammar, punctuation, spelling and sentence structure while editors actually read through to make sure the story, essay, article makes sense and flows smoothly, on top of all of those other things.

For example, book editors work with authors to ensure their ideas are flowing together into an interesting story that makes sense and draw the reader in. They give writers some perspective on their writing. If this sounds like something you'd enjoy doing and you have experience writing and proofreading, start applying to some freelance editing jobs! You can do it from home, just like writing and proofreading.
