Is PureTalk phone service any good?

UNBELIEVABLY unreliable service

Noticed I was getting fewer calls & texts than normal during first month; "fun" REALLY started during 2nd-- coverage out AT LEAST 20 of 23 days during one stretch, for HOURS at a time, no call or text ability at all, often no 'net either. Company claims to use AT&T network but my ancient emergency-only (and now first-string by necessity) AT&T Prepaid "dumbphone" never missed a beat the whole time. It's even been out-- right NOW, as I type this-- for over 7 hours. Can (probably?) still call 911 (and NO ONE else) if needed...haven't seen this level of Rank-Amateur-Hour absurdity since the early '90s when dial-up internet connections would sometimes get randomly dropped during peak usage. Simply gave up calling cust svc after first 10 or 11 incidents. Even a 19th-Century landline lets you make and receive calls when you're HOME! This is beyond useless. Will obviously be leaving PureTalk the INSTANT I find a decent deal.

EVERYTHING! SCAM!

I joined Pure talk as customer 4/1/2020 about 2 weeks ago as a NEW customer. I still have 2 weeks to cancel my account for 100$% refund if I choose to according to policy. They key here is " NEW " customer. I still am a NEW customer! One reason I joined is due to the fact Pure talk offers phones on a installment basis with their service "NO" discount SALE of the phone I wanted 4/1/202", yet I still was going to get the phone in a few months due to having great credit with or without installment options. I also "daily" check to see if the phone I want is still available with or without a discount. Yesterday 4/20/20 on their website the phone I wanted is advertised for $250.00 off. I figured with a National Emergency Pure-talk was discounting their phones for their valued clients because of this. While trying to purchase that phone on their website from THEM directly and their finance company Affirm, my purchase did NOT allow the $250.00 discount although advertised that way. Still is. I made 2 separate phone calls to customer service that same day. Both customer service reps. had two conflicting stories as to WHY I could not get the phone I wanted at the advertised discount. First service rep for Pure talk told me to go on my profile with Pure-talk and add the phone to my cart for purchase. When I attempted to do so it was NOT at the sale price. The service rep on the phone from pure-talk " recommended I call and check with the company Pure talk uses for its financing (Affirm) regarding the phone at a $250.00 discount and was "SURE" thats why I was having a problem getting $250 discount. I called the finance company as directed. The finance company Affirm informed me the $250.00 discount advertised by Pure-talk they did not see that option with their service for that discount and I would have to contact Pure talk for the answer since I should be able to get the phone directly through Pure-talk regarding the advertised $250.00 discount.. So again, I contact a different customer service rep about this issue and she tells me the $250.00 discount is for NEW customers. When I proceeded to tell her I am a new customer, and have 2 weeks left as a NEW customer to decide if I want their services she said nothing and had no answer. I told her the main reason I joined Pure-talk is due to the fact they have financing and phone discounts. This phone rep. then told me the discounts are only for NEW customers. I then told her, I just joined 2 weeks ago, and am still considered a NEW customer since I have 2 weeks as a NEW customer to decide if I want his service risk free. She had no answer or the energy to get me the correct answer. Lastly, on this same conversation, this same service rep. (Natasha) as I told her I just joined and wanted to purchase a phone from them directly or Affirm finance told me the $250.00 discount has been ""available for a month"". NOT TRUE! Like I said, I'm on going my 3rd week of service with PURE-TALK and if the phone was at a $250.00 discount as advertised when I joined, I would have got that phone " the same day I chose Pure-talk as a customer and would not be writing this letter. There is nowhere on their customer profile page that states this $250.00 discount is for people who joined during the "advertised sale day" NOWHERE! Moreover, I know for a FACT this $250.00 discount was NOT available to me when I joined and this customer service rep. "insisted" it was! When I told her she was wrong and the phones have NOT been on a $250.00 discount for a month she hung up on me!!!! REALLY? What do I get? My intelligence insulted and lies. Please stop this company from its deceptive, unethical, business practices and advertisements.

Not the seamless process that they claim

I talked to a rep for a half hour ready to give an order and one phone was not compatible had all the pricing but had to pick phone. Wanted to see what was offered. So did not give order. All prices given to me with 20% discount for being veteran. Called back got phone got pricing and young lady told me I had to call another number to see if I could get the veterans discount. Far from seamless the 35.00 I was saving wasn't worth another phone call. I have been withh ATT from the beginning of time will stay with them. By far not a simple seamless process.

Service. Hold time, everything

After my phone number was ported the nightmare began. First, I lost all ability to use Siri and the internet. Later on I found out my outgoing and in coming text messages were not sent nor received. Then after 2 hours of porting my number I had lost all ability to receive and make phone calls. I was left without without phone service until I located a phone dealer and ported my number to another network. Switching was the worse thing I had ever done. I recommend all NYers to stay away.

Tried to switch over from Tracfone for better pricing.. According to the website our phones would be compatible. $30, 5 hours-2 1/2 of those waiting on customer service to pick up from hold-and no service later, we finally find out our phones were in fact, not compatible. It's not worth it, don't switch.

I hav,e an old flip phone. Don't need or want all the stuff the kids like. Works fine for me in FL, GA, and NY.

no voicemail, text pics forever dowloading

This is a company that has very little explanation for any problem. Have had service for 2 mos. and still no voicemail service and was told they would call me when it is corrected??

phone disconnected...no or slow connections..rude

customer service number 611 takes you to red pocket and they don't know anything about Pure Talk, I thik Pure Talk got hacked. When I called 1 877 number they said I would be charged for the call and then hung up on me when I complained about their 611 number and the service.

Price

Have had Puretalk for years. They "piggyback" on ATT's network. Sometimes have to turn cellular off/on to kick connection into gear when going from WIfi>Cell, No visual voicemail if u care abt that & a few other limitations like the group messaging (but I have iMessage) & tethering on XR issues. Most issues I don't notice in day-to-day use though. Support always picks up within a few mins and sometimes just answer -- helpful and polite in my experience. VERY cheap (the price is the price; no weird fees -- they just started charging sales tax though). When I consider switching to a "real" service to avoid the no-frills network, I see the price difference and it's just not worth it.

totally unreliable and snarky customer service.

I am not tech savvy. I got a simple flip phone. Wanted to let go of my tracfone. Sadly I am keeping tracfone because the last 5 mo I have had puretalk it has been totally unreliable. I either cannot receive calls...they go straight to voive mail or the caller has told me it just doesn't go thru. Or I cannot call out, there is no 3G signal even though I have bars. I guess it's good for emergency calls when it says "emergency calls only" I have to use up many minutes when I call customer service from my tracfone...last time I got a snarky gal...guess she didn't like it when I told her I'm not tech savvy and she would have to explain and walk me thru it. Tracfone has be amazingly reliable for the last 12 years I've had them. It may cost me a bit more but being a senior and on limited budget, I will take reliable over cheaper and unreliable.

I've never had any problems with my service and the price is right! I've been with PureTalk for several years and I've never had a dropped call or any other problems. It is, indeed, wonderful to finally have a great phone service.

Decent Prices

I had a trouble with the phone being weird when i first got it. I spent alot of time with tech support getting it sorted out. The prices are fair but its not easy to start out with.

Simplicity

I'm not looking for a ton of options for a phone plan so Pure TalkUSA worked for me. The plans don't have a ton of features but when you just want to be able to sign up and talk this works fine. The privacy features work fine which is rare in these days.

Customer Service

I had a very Tiring experience with Pure Talk starting from the SIM not working, to having to go back and forth with customer service to get the service I PAID FOR to actually work. Avoid at all costs.
