Having a place to store your files is of utmost necessity these days. We can't lug around our computer towers everywhere we go and laptops aren't as portable as we think. There's always the possibility of just carrying around an external hard drive or some sort of disc, but the solution to all of this is having an online backup where you can get to your files anywhere that has internet access.
JustCloud is a good choice for unlimited storage along with the usual things you find with online backup services in the industry. You get great security for your files, can share and archive them, and can rest easy with automatic backups. The customer service from JustCloud could be improved, however. They're available 24/7 by email, though email response times can seem infinite when you have an urgent need.
This isn't to say JustCoud isn't a good online backup service though. They have all the basics you find with any other provider and offer plenty of help to their customers. Many customers have good things to say about JustCloud and the services provided, and many online reviewers put them near the top of their list.
How JustCloud Works
Just like the competition, JustCloud offers file synchronization, file sharing, unlimited backup space and drag and drop file backup. You can backup large files, but you have to go for an upgrade to backup files larger than 1GB. If you go for the upgrade, you can backup files up to 5GB in size. For people on a budget, the basic plan is an attractive low cost option. Again, as with many of their competitors, the longer term you sign up for, the better the price.
For those new to online backup, JustCloud is a good choice. The user friendly service is a breeze to set up. It's a simple download, and you'll be backing up your files quickly and securely. It's a handy place to park your photo archives. Once your photos are uploaded to JustCloud, you can browse them, share with family and friends and download them to whatever device you are using. For example, it's easy to download photos on your mobile device and add a filter on Instagram.
While JustCloud is a great options for newbies to cloud storage, it's privacy and backup scheduling functionality is on the basic side. Business owners and those needing to manage subsets of data may want to shop around for a cloud storage system with more features. If you have a lot of large files in formats such as PDF, or video files, it's a good idea to compare JustClouds' prices and features to some of their competitors.
Excluded File Types
JustCloud gives you the option to exclude particular file types if you want to. If you have files that you are sensitive for any reason, you can exclude them from your backups. Simply indicate the file extensions you do not want to back up and JustCloud automatically ignores them.
It's worth noting that JustCloud does not support automatic video backups. If you want to back up your video files with this service, you need to select them manually. You also have the option of purchasing an upgrade that includes automatic video backup.
Your files are automatically backed up once per day by JustCloud. You choose the time of day when the backup occurs. You can also set up a schedule for which days you would like the backup function to kick in. You may want to set up your backups to be performed when you are away from your computer, for example when you are at work, or in the middle of the night while you sleep.
Pricing at JustCloud
There are options on offer from JustCloud for plans at a range of price points, depending on how much storage space you need.
They follow the industry standard practice of offering discounts for locking in your cloud storage for a longer term. You can sign up for monthly, semi-annual, 1 year or 2 year terms. Here's the current fees:
The 75GB Home plan costs $107.71, for 2 years at a rate of $4.49 per month. The 250 GB Premium plan costs $118.75 for 2 years, which breaks down to $4.95 per month. The Unlimited Plan costs $166.85 for 2 years, a monthly fee of $6.95.
The entry level Home plan is fairly competitive, but the price for the Unlimited Plan is a bit on the higher end of average for the cloud storage industry.
These rates are subject to change at any time.
Is JustCloud Secure?
You can rely on JustCloud to store you files securely, as they contract with Google Cloud Storage, backing up your files on the Google servers. As an added protection, you data is replicated and stored in multiple data centers, a practice called Geo-Redundant Storage. Data is encrypted and transferred using EAS-256 bit technology, the same level of security used for military and banking data. Files are kept secure in perpetuity, and you are the only one authorized to remove them from the cloud via your control panel.
Customer support is available at JustCloud via email around the clock, every day of the year. Live chat support is also available. Technical support is not available via phone, although you can call about billing inquiries.
JustCloud doesn't have phenomenal customer support in terms of forms of contact, nor is their price the best, but that doesn't knock them down too many pegs in the long run. After all, some files on your computer are priceless.
You can easily start a free trial account and try JustCloud before committing to paying for the service. The free account comes with 15MB of storage space. While this is not a lot of space, it's more than enough to try the service to see if you'd like to sign up and park all of your valuable files there.
