You have a variety of options when it comes to AT&T all of which are very affordable. You can choose between dial-up, DSL, and fiber optics. You also have the choice to take advantage of the great packages that AT&T U-verse has to offer. It's definitely a great choice if you happen to live in an area where their fiber optic network is available. If so, you can get great speeds at a very competitive price. Unfortunately, U-verse has a limited availability. Service is available in the Southeast, Midwest, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas, California and Nevada.
If you are just looking for Internet service, AT&T has some really good options in terms of speed and cost. They start with a deal that offers just enough speed for someone who mostly just wants to use the Internet for more simple tasks, such as emails and browsing, as well as using social media. Speeds start out at 3 Mbps, then 6, 24, and their top speed is 75 Mbps. For Internet services, a one year contract is necessary.
Signing the agreement for U-verse Internet and getting their service means that you will have your own home Wi-Fi. It will also give you access to their national Wi-Fi hotspots.
If you want TV in your package, AT&T provides customers with two options: you can either get it through AT&T's U-verse package, or they now offer DirecTV for customers who prefer it. If you buy the U-verse version, they have packages that will start out with 140 channels and go up to 470 channels. Each package comes with the Total Home DVR, and a one-year agreement will be needed.
The Total Home DVR can record in HD and it is capable of recording up to four shows at the same time. People in your home with different TVs can watch different shows or record shows at the same time. When a user switches to Multiview, four channels can be viewed on the same screen at the same time. A show can be selected while watching four screens and users can choose one for recording. The DVR will also enable eight different TVs to be viewed simultaneously.
A wireless TV receiver will let you watch TV in any room, or even in the garage, without a cable. This saves on having to wire different rooms for TV.
The lowest cost TV package is identified by AT&T to be the one for the family. It has 140 channels and each one is family friendly, including nature, food, DIY shows, and cartoons. News, educational shows, sports, and movies can also be seen, and other ones can be added for a fee. Parental controls limit what kids can watch. Family programs are also available On Demand.
Phone service with AT&T can be obtained as a stand-alone service, or with a package. The low cost program offers up to 200 minutes of calling in the United States or in the U.S. Territories. The next level package offers unlimited calling within the U.S. and territories, and also to Canada and Mexico. Phone features include Call Screening, Call Forwarding, and also some features that are displayed on your TV screen, such as Call History, Caller ID which shows up on your TV screen, and Click to Call, which lets you use your TV screen and remote to return a call. Exclusive Call Forwarding lets you choose which calls will be forwarded, and the rest will go to voicemail.
If you want to get DirecTV, AT&T will also give you a special deal on a smartphone. They will let you pick your choice of smartphone and then you can make monthly payments on it, and buy your shared data plans with it. The program AT&T Next enables customers to be able to buy a new smartphone every 18 months. Even though they originally signed up for a 24-month period, when they buy the new smartphone at the end of 18 months, the remaining payments are forgiven.
AT&T also offers a program that will provide you with security for your home, called Digital Life. You can view the inside or outside of your home through live video cameras that have been installed by professionals, or you can even see recorded video. You can also turn your security system on or off, and control the thermostat and lights – all from your smartphone. Doors can also be locked or unlocked. Three home packages are available, along with different types of sensors. A two-year agreement is required, but the equipment is free.
When you want good phone service, AT&T points out that 99% of Americans have access to their 4G LTE network. This enables you to access their more than 30,000 hotspots to save on data usage, as well as being able to stream movies to your phone, watch HD TV live, and play games and listen to music.
AT&T has a limited time offer of a $150 Visa card when you order one of the better U-verse packages that include Internet, TV, and phone service.
Here is a company that offers pretty much everything you could possibly need in the way of Internet services and electronics for those services. There are also plenty of options. Because of the many choices, it could easily cause someone to buy more than they could really afford – but that is not the fault of the company. Before buying, it is recommended that you determine what your needs are first, then buy according to your budget.
Verdict - Great
As an ISP, AT&T presents a lot of choices when it comes to the Internet, TV and phone services. None of the other companies actually sells smartphones, or offers a payment plan for them. Their reputation for solid customer service is well-known. AT&T is definitely a great choice if you live in its service area. Even though it isn't the fastest option, AT&T has fairly fast speeds at prices that are worth the few second's difference. It would be hard to find better deals anywhere else.
