Select Home Warranty

Select Home Warranty is a new option in the home warranty market, starting in 2011. However, they have quickly made themselves a viable option for homeowners and renters covering all kinds of properties. They even cover short term rentals and free standing structures that are separated from a main home. Although they are young, they have a wide network of over 10,000 professional technicians and contractors.

Select Home Warranty Plan Offerings

Select Home Warranty has split their coverage into three different plans. The Bronze Plan covers house hold appliances like washer and dryer, refrigerator, oven and many others. Their Gold Care Plan covers major systems like heating, plumbing and electric. Platinum is the most comprehensive, covering both appliances and major systems. Each of these plans can be customized to add coverages like pools, well pumps, roof leaks, sprinkler systems and other unique systems.

Signing Up for Service

If you are eager to find out how much a plan with Select Home Warranty will costs you can receive a free quote by contacting it through its toll free phone line or by starting the process online. If you decide to go with the online option, you'll need to supply property information such as your address, property type and if your home is less than or greater than 5,000 square feet.

Once you complete the enrollment application and pay for the policy fee, the coverage you selected will start within 30 days. As part of this, if you are buying a home and want the money taken from escrow to pay for a home warranty, Select Home Warranty allows you to do so. All you have to do is contact it and one of its reps will be happy to assist you.

Moreover, you also have the option to buy multi-year coverages at a discount. You can also renew your policy after it expires.

Claims Handling

In the event a covered item needs repaired, you can submit claims request online through its website or by emailing it. From there, a member of its staff will walk you through the process. This includes finding out more information on the part, determining if your policy covers the part and even setting up an appointment where a technician will visit your residence. If or when this occurs, you will need to pay a trade service call fee. You will pay this fee to the contractor that visits your home. These fees can vary depending on trade and other factors such as if the technician determines the repair will require outside help from another trade (plumbing, electrical, etc.).

Pros of Using Select Home Warranty Review

One of the unique things about Select Home Warranty is how versatile it is in the coverages it offers. Not only do you have three levels of coverage types you can choose from, you can also do optional coverages for your home's other components including its spa or pool. This is beneficial in that you can pick and choose to an extent the components in your home to have this protection at a level that aligns most with your budget.

Speaking of costs, Select Home Warranty offers competitive terms on its coverage options to better help protect your home at affordable prices. Additionally, it has available multi-year policies you can take advantage of. If you do, you'll receive a discount for selecting this term of coverage, giving you more affordability in protecting your home.

Another great feature is its large network of technicians. With a larger network of technicians at its disposal it ensures you receive the service you need quicker, which can make a huge difference when the need to repair one of your home's major components is critical.

Lastly, Select Home Warranty does an excellent job providing an easy to use website where you can find all the information you need. With great features such as its FAQ, you will have access to a scope of questions and answers on its home warranty policies. It also provides multiple point of contact information on most of its webpages that way if you want to speak with a member of its staff, they are just a phone call or email away.

Drawbacks to Using Select Home Warranty

The big concern with it stems from its lack of having customer support available 24 hours a day. This can be frustrating if you encounter a critical component in your home needing repair (furnace, water heater, air conditioner) but you have to wait until its office opens to receive assistance. Other home warranty providers do offer customer support 24/7, so it's important to weigh this factor before deciding to go with it or another service provider.

Tools and Support

Unlike other providers that feature a wealth of information either through a blog or support tab on its website, Select Home Warranty doesn't have these features. As noted previously, it does feature a helpful FAQ section, where you can find account management information and more on its home warranty coverages. Overall, Select Home Warranty has a limited scope of support information it supplies on its website.

Support is a different story. If you like to do many things online, you will enjoy Select Home Warranty's website layout. Once you access its webpage, you can find out more about its package offerings, request a free quote online and even fill out information to begin a claim. Instead of having to wait on the phone to speak to an agent, Select Home Warranty allows you to do many of the things you need online to give you a hassle free and expedited process.

Verdict - Average

Though it is a new company, it has the network in place to offer service around the country and comprehensive plans to cover every aspect of a home. It also has competitive terms and discounts for multi-year plans to give you more protection at affordable prices. Though it offers limited support features, its versatility in plan offerings make it an appealing choice.

1 out of 10 rating 1 great price they paid nothing. Zero.

I've waited a good six months to write this review because I wanted it to be even-tempered and without emotion. All I can say without hyperbole is beware. I bought a five year plan after having a very impressive sales call with one of their agents. I bought a 1927 home, so I knew there would be issues. It started off with minor problems and then grew to more significant. But the bottom line is, they never fixed anything, never paid for anything, and their customer service was nothing shy of condescending. They always found a clause which was in direct contradiction to what their sales rep had stated with clarity. After receiving my partial refund after months of effort, I then tried another major home warranty company and not only did they come out and fix my HVAC within a month of me signing up, they paid for the whole thing and with a smile, too. What a contrast. So not all home warranty companies are alike. If anyone wants to discuss my experiences in detail with Select Home Warranty, I'll be very happy to correspond with, or even speak with you. While I'm no longer "angry," I was at one point seething and I'll do whatever it takes so long as I live to warn potential buyers. I'm a believer in consumers sticking together. And if you do choose to go with this company, you may wind up remember this review after it's too late. It's not the end of the world, but why bother? It's not just the money, it's the frustration and the hours spent with their customer service. so very painful.

1 out of 10 rating 1 quick response hidden fees

I filed my first claim on this policy today when my water heater quit working. Technician was on site by noon (great start). However, after I paid my $45 service fee (deductible), they told me the reimbursement would be capped at $150 - even though the repair cost is $325 because my policy had not been in effect for 3 months yet. There was another tier for the next 3 months too, apparently. I thought I was paying for 12 months of coverage not 9 months of partial coverage. If there was some expectation set from the beginning, I might not be so upset.

So, I terminated my contract and they charged for 2 full months of the annual price plus a $75 cancellation fee - even though they never paid a claim. I think this business thrives on deception. I will just take my chances going forward.

1 out of 10 rating 1 None Horrible customer service, very cheap to do any replacement or repairs, Technichans Hates them because they don't get paid by them for the work its been done.

I have been in property management for 18 years, this company by far is the worst home warranty company I dealt with in my entire career. Their customer service is very bad and never helpful, they are very cheap in paying for repairs and never do any replacements even when the technichans tell them it needs replacement. They referred me 3 times once to technicians and none of the technicians wanted to take their servie call due to the fact they haven't got paid for the work its been done in the past. I have their coverage in two of the properties I got and can't wait to cancel them. I would never recommend their service to any home owner or property manager.

Beware of SELECT HOME WARRANTY !!!

+Beware of this company, Select Home Warranty!. They entice you with low rates and free months but the service is horrific!!!! I filed a claim almost 4 months into my contract to have my washer and dryer fixed. They sent me the names of two companies to repair my appliances. The first stated they no longer worked for Select because they owed them so much money, the second, I left a message to call me back and never got a call back so I called again and the number was disconnected. I Contacted them several times and they sent me the name of two more companies. one for the dryer and another for the washer. The one assigned to my dryer was a heating and air man and stated he was not authorized to repair appliances. I contacted the company and asked if one company could be assigned to fix both, knowing that I would have two copays. The repair man came and said he never got authorization numbers for the repairs and I had to call the company again to have them separate the appliances and get two authorizations, one for each appliance. The estimate for the repairs came to 640 dollars. Select offered my only $150.00 dollars and stated that there was a prorated amout offered in the first three months of the contract stating that the first 30 days of the contract did not count since claims could not be filed. I had paid the contract for the full year on March 13 and it was now July 13, 4 months after. They only offered my 150 for one appliance and the contract lists them as separate. Even after the 4 months is up, They will only pay up to 500.00 for each appliance and 2000 for a repair or replacement of your heating and air. I paid much more than that for each appliance. This company has 381 complaints listed against them with the better business bureau. I have asked for a refund of my contract amount due to poor service and misleading information I was given when I purchased my contract. Select told me there was a $75.00 cancellation fee and the rest is prorated but would not give me an amount of the refund I will get until the day after I cancel. My contract was for 12 months with three months free. I told them that I was going to file a formal complaint with the attorny generals office no matter the outcome so some other unsuspecting customer does not get ripped off by this unprofessional, misleading company.

1 out of 10 rating 1 Nothing at all. Customer service; exclusions to policy; rude, unhelpful employees.

I want to advise every potential customer of this company to review the contract with a fine tooth comb. We have attempted to submit three claims for various items in our house, two of which were outright denied. The final claim was approved, however they authorized only $95 for a mounted 1000 watt Microwave (our deductible is $45). The refused to include installation for the replacement microwave, despite the fact that a non-permanently mounted microwave is excluded from the contract. After an exhaustive search for a mounted 1000 watt Microwave, I could not find any product that came close to $140. The customer service rep (Jermel at extension 39) was unable to provide me (despite being asked multiple times) to provide a make and model of a microwave that is comparable to our current one that cost $140. I understand Select home warranty is a business, designed to make a profit, but with their exhaustive list of non-included items the customer gets screwed every time. Our incompetent rep (once again, Jermel at extension 39) refused to put a supervisor on the phone when asked. Be very, very cautious and skeptical of anything this company offers you. They are happy as clams to take your monthly payment, but when it comes to helping a customer it is a different story. I just wish this web site allowed me to give less than a 1/2 star review, because in my opinion, 1 star is being overly generous.
