Features & Perks
Mediacom services include internet, television, home phone, and security options. For now, let's dive into its internet service and all the benefits you receive when you sign up for it.
As part of its internet service, Mediacom gives you access to WiFi and your own email address. This is the easiest way to connect all your home's internet devices and use them in any room. It's important to note that the more internet devices you need, the faster download speeds you'll require. We will get into internet speeds and the plans Mediacom offers later.
Along with WiFi, Mediacom wants to keep your online browsing secure. It achieves this by giving you access to its Total Defense Internet Security Suite security tool. This security tool encompasses perks such as firewall protection, antivirus software, parental controls and more. While Total Defense Internet Security is available, it's been rated by both Amazon users and magazines as average, meaning that you may want to go with.

Speaking of parental controls, keeping your kids safe when they are online is a big concern. To account for this, Mediacom offers parental control features. With this, you can choose the type of content your children are able to access online, giving you peace of mind your kids can browse the internet safely.
You can sign up for internet service with Mediacom in three simple steps. First, it will see if your area of residence is able to receive Mediacom's service. If it is, you move on to selecting your plan and more. You can learn more about parental control software with our guide on "How to Setup Parental Control Software."
What I noticed when I examined Mediacom's internet is that it offers much more in the way of benefits than you'll find with other internet providers, causing the internet packages to sit at a reasonable price. At the same time, one of the benefits other companies like Time Warner Cable have that Mediacom lacks is access to WiFi hotspots nationwide. This isn't a big deal since plenty of places offer free WiFi, but it is one benefit Mediacom lacks that other providers have.

How Fast is Mediacom?
We touched on Mediacom's internet speeds before, so let's explore further what internet speeds mean to you. To help you with this, let me provide some illustrations of common behaviors you do online and what each requires in the way of download speeds:
- Browsing the internet: 1 Mbps
- Playing streaming video services: 4 Mbps
- Playing games online: 5 Mbps
Using this as the template, it can help you account for the download speeds you should look for when selecting a plan. As previously stated, Mediacom has a wide selection of download speeds, ranging from 15 Mbps to 150 Mbps.
Therefore, you can find a plan that most aligns with your online habits so you have enough speed without fear of overpaying for service.

Bundles, Plans, and Pricing
One of the things I found when looking for internet bundles with Mediacom was how difficult it was to access this information. Most providers advertise their bundled services such as the internet, cable TV, and home phone service on their websites, making it easy for customers to find pricing and plans in an expedited manner. To learn more about Internet and TV bundles, check out our handy guide. We also have a guide to all of Mediacom's bundles here.
If you bundle Mediacom Communications packages together, you'll not only save money, but you'll be able to have some fantastic digital TV channels for your high definition set. One such bundle you can access is internet with up to 100Mbps, digital TV with hundreds of channels (including high definition channels), and home phone service.
Mediacom does things differently. After navigating its website my best tip is to contact its customer service line via phone or email address to see which bundled options it has available in your area. This will help you avoid the difficult navigation on its website.
Mediacom has a great selection of internet plans available. Take a look at the variety of plans and packages available that meet your budget and preferences. Be aware that some prices or promotions may be limited to where you live.
If you are seeking great internet deals, a great way to see what's available is to visit the provider's website. In the case of Mediacom, though, you will first see if it has service in your area and even if it does, you might have to contact it to learn of promotions.
The best time to look for promotions is during the holidays. Typically, the week right after Thanksgiving is a good time to look because providers offer incentives to get customers to change.
A timeless strategy is to bundle services if you want cable television or home phone. You are much more likely to receive a competitive deal with this approach since providers want you to commit to as many of their services as they can.
Mediacom Customer Support
Mediacom has multiple points of contact if you have any questions or encounter technical issues. Mediacom has customer service available via phone or online chat. You can also visit its website to find a store near you.
As a frame of reference, since Mediacom is testing out its new internet service in Missouri I did a store search around Jefferson City. I found five locations within a reasonable radius of Jefferson City, so if you live in one of the 22 states Mediacom services, you might have a location near you. You can do store searches by visiting its website, then go to Mediacom's contact us section to find its store locator.
Speaking of its website, Mediacom has a support portal. This is beneficial for customers in that it has sections where you can access some of the most common issues concerning internet service such as checking your internet usage and more.
Furthermore, it also has account management tools and support forums; this is where you go to see if other customers have common issues and what they did to rectify them.
As you can see Mediacom has ample resources on its website. However, this only speaks to part of its service. The best way to gauge its reputation is to see how its customers view its service.
Customer reviews and company reputation are two great ways to determine whether or not you might enjoy a Mediacom internet plan. Mediacom scored a 57/100 on the American Customer Satisfaction Index, placing it second lowest among current internet providers. Even more damaging is the fact Mediacom hasn't seen an increase in its ranking since last year, indicating it hasn't done much to improve customer satisfaction.an average score amongst its competitors.
On the Better Business Bureau, Mediacom is an Accredited Business with an A+ score. Keep in mind that the experiences of one customer are not representative of the company as a whole, but it is important to spot potential issues you may have with the company early nonetheless.
When I conducted research on customer reviews, I was surprised to find they belied what the American Customer Satisfaction Index reported. Most customers were happy with the high level of service they received with Mediacom. Even better, for those who had complaints, Mediacom responded to their concerns promptly, which I have yet to find with most other internet providers.
If you have been or are currently a Mediacom internet customer, feel free to share your experience with us and other readers by filling out the review section at the bottom of the page.
Mediacom is a great offering if you live in one of the 22 states it services. Some of the main perks you receive with Mediacom is a wide range of internet plans and speeds, making it a great fit for diverse needs. Even its support is improving, as the vast majority of customer reviews I read were positive, which is rare for internet providers. Limited service availability aside, Mediacom makes the list as one of better internet providers for all the perks you receive.
Do keep in mind, however, that it does not make our top five internet providers. You can check out our buyer's guide to internet providers for rankings, comparisons, and in-depth analysis.
Internet and television go hand in hand. If you're in the market for a new Internet service provider, why not see what your options are elsewhere? Mediacom doesn't offer television service of its own, but you can refer to our buyer's guide to cable providers to see our top picks.
