ADT Medical Alert
The ADT medical alert system is an offshoot of the ADT home security business, where they are one of the industry heavyweights. You can choose ADT as a medical alert provider secure in the knowledge that they are experts in monitoring and security. They have been in the medical alert business long enough to streamline their products and services with feedback from customers. There is no long term contract required to begin service with the ADT medical alert system, making it even more attractive as you shop for the best medical alert company.
What ADT Offers
The ADT medical alert system connects those who are in distress with an ADT monitoring professional, who calls for help on your behalf. Should you or your loved one slip and fall, or suffer a serious health problem such as a heart attack, the user presses a help button mounted on a necklace or wristband pendant.
Medical Alert Service Options
ADT offers three levels of medical monitoring service featuring landline, wireless or mobile technology at a range of price points. Each service level comes with it's own distinct equipment package.
The ADT Medical Alert Basic System comes with a waterproof wristband or pendant with a help button. The help button connects wirelessly to the base station enabled for two-way communication with ADT response professionals on a 24/7 basis, including holidays. If you or your loved one presses the help button, ADT help center personnel can speak to you and call emergency responders if necessary.
The basic system plugs into a landline phone jack and has a 300 foot range, enough to completely cover every room in the house, but a bit low by industry standards. It includes the base unit with two-way voice intercom, a high/low temperature sensor, a back-up battery and your choice of wireless waterproof pendant or wristband.
ADT also offers the Medical Alert Plus System with wireless capability, a great choice for those who do not have a landline phone. It has an extended 600 foot range, perfect for active elderly people who enjoy gardening and hanging out in the yard. The temperature monitoring feature of this system really stands out. The monitoring center is alerted to unusually low or high temperatures, which could be a sign of a dangerous situation. This feature is especially useful in the absence of a traditional landline phone.
The Alert Plus package features a water proof pendant or wristband, and an optional fall detection pendant, all equipped with help buttons. This system also has a base station facilitating two-way communication with the ADT monitoring center on a 24/7 basis.
The highest service level from ADT medical monitoring is the On-the-Go Emergency Response System. It features a mobile unit along with a waterproof pendant or wristband. The mobile unit provides a safety-net to users both inside and outside the home, bringing the peace of mind provided by ADT monitoring wherever they go. Should you press the help button, the ADT monitoring staff can speak to you over the two-way intercom via the mobile device, and can determine your location using GPS technology included in the mobile unit.
The On-the-Go system works on cellular technology. The pendant or wristband need to be within 100 feet of the mobile unit to communicate with it effectively.
An automatic fall detection pendant is available for an extra fee as an upgrade option. It senses when a fall has taken place. Even if the wearer is unconscious, the pendant reports the fall to the monitoring center. Wearers should always press the call button if they are able, on the off chance that the fall monitoring device fails to report a fall. The fall alert option can be bundled in with all levels of monthly service, with landline, cellular or mobile systems.
ADT medical alert customers may want to consider some of the home security products offered by ADT, such as carbon monoxide monitoring and fire/smoke alert services. Be sure to do your due diligence on costs and contract requirements for add-on services that may be considered home security items rather than medical alert items.
Service Fees at ADT
Each service package from ADT is billed monthly. The rates are very competitive within the medical alert industry. There are no installation or activation fees for the basic landline system. The top-tier On-the-Go service level working with mobile technology does have an activation charge. ADT does not offer discounts for paying in advance, while some of their competitors do. Service is provided on a month-to-month basis, there is no long term contract required.
Customer Service at ADT
Customers can easily reach ADT medical monitoring via their toll free phone number and live chat. The comprehensive customer support page includes FAQs, video tutorials to help with installation and more, and battery replacement information. ADT medical alert system equipment comes with a warranty for repairs or replacements on regular wear and tear. It does not include lost equipment, or equipment damaged by users.
The company has been around for over 130 years, with the medical alert business launched fairly recently in 2004. ADT was eager to expand its expertise to helping seniors and those with disabilities live independently.
Since starting in the medical monitoring business, ADT has taken pains to shape their services to fulfill the needs of clients, listening to feedback and changing aspects of the business to meet consumer demand and preferences. They eliminated the requirement for a one year contract, brought prices into line with industry standards and added cutting edge technology such as the GPS mobile alert system.
ADT has worked hard to earn a top spot in the medical monitoring business, bringing their service offerings and price structure into line with industry standards. On the down side, they only offer service in English. Also, they could improve vis-a-vis the competition by adding discounts for pre-payment.
Some clients enjoy the convenience of purchasing medical alert and home security services from one company. On balance, ADT is worth a close look while comparison shopping for a medical monitoring provider.
