Bay Alarm Medical Alert

Bay Alarm Medical is a top medical monitoring system that offers quality, standard industry features as well as some interesting extras. They offer several features automatically that some companies offer at an additional cost like an additional alert button for a spouse or relative that lives with you and periodic check-in service.

Bay Alarm medical also supports over 170 different languages using a translation service to provide assistance for people who don't speak English or speak it as a second language.

One of the more unique features that Bay Alarm medical offers is smoke and gas detection in addition to standard medical monitoring. The system monitors your normal detectors and if they detect gas it will alert emergency services. This is an excellent feature because gas and smoke can leave you incapacitated, so having someone send help to you automatically can be a life saver.

One drawback to this service is that there is no free shipping for equipment, which some other top companies will provide. However, this is a small inconvenience for this high quality service.

Equipment Basics

The base model Bay Alarm medical monitoring console makes communication easy in an emergency. It has a backup battery that lasts up to 32 hours, keeping you safe during power outages. The microphone and speaker enable two way communications with response personnel, even if you are not near the unit. The console can be used to answer phone calls too. Just push the button on your pendant and begin speaking. This activates the speakerphone on the base console.

The pendant itself is compact and unobtrusive, as well as waterproof. You wear it as a necklace or wristband, or it can clip onto your belt. You or your loved one can wear it however you like best, with the peace of mind that it's always handy in case of an emergency. You can get extra pendants for other family members that run off the same console. The extra pendants must be purchased, but there's no additional fee added to your monthly medical monitoring package rate.

The basic landline phone based system has a range of up to 1,000 feet. Range varies a bit depending on size and layout of your home, as well as the construction materials used in the house. The base console unit and the pendant can communicate through most walls, including exterior walls. The console receives emergency alerts via the pendant and in turn relays information to the Bay Alarm Medical staff, which brings emergency help.

Fees and Contracts

There is no activation fee to start service with Bay Alarm Medical. And they do compete on price, offering their basic service package for a couple dollars per month less than industry leader Medical Guardian. You must pay twice a year to get best rate on the base level landline package.

Bay Alarm Medical does not require long term contracts. There are no cancellation fees. If you decide to cancel, you simply wait until the end of the month, quarter or semi-annual term you've already paid for. You must return the equipment too.

If you move, you can bring your system with you and resume service in your new location under your existing plan. You can also take the system on vacation with you.

Service Options

Bay Alarm Medical offers distinct equipment and service options for their medical alert systems. Each option comes with particular equipment with its own features and monthly price point.

The cheapest option is the in-home system that works connects to your land line. The next tier of service is the cellular medical alert system for those with no landline.

Next is the GPS medical alert system, powered by T-Mobile cellular. The GPS system can go anywhere with you. It costs a one-time device fee of $80. The landline or cellular system can be bundled with the GPS system if you don't mind your monthly fee climbing to the high end of medical alert pricing.

You must pay an extra $10 per month to add an automatic fall detection button to your package.

Also available is a premium package upgrade for smoke, fire and carbon monoxide monitoring. The detection equipment is configured to work with your medical monitoring equipment. Essentially, Bay Alarm combines tools from their home security and medical alert businesses to work together and they up-charge you for it.

Another handy add-on feature is the Bay Alarm medical alert system lockbox. A lockbox is installed at your home and you put an extra key in it. The Bay Alarm response staff can give the lockbox information to ambulance, police or fire responders to emergency calls. When they arrive at your house, they can open the lockbox and retrieve the key to get inside and help. They will not have to knock down doors or break windows to get inside your house. As emergency responders will use whatever means necessary to get inside to bring you help, it's nice that they don't have to damage the property to get to you.

Customer Support

Bay Alarm Medical offers a toll free phone number and online chat at their website. The chat box pops up everywhere on the site, it's a great feature that is easy to find and easy to use. Not all medical alert companies are offering online chat. It's an outstanding feature. There is also a FAQ page at the site. Both online chat and the FAQ pages are really handy when it comes time to setup and configure your system. System setup is simple in any case. Plug the console into the phone jack and the power outlet, test the unit and you're good to go. But it's still quite nice to have able help at your fingertips.

Verdict - Great

Bay Alarm Medical gets a lot of thing right like reliable equipment, easy installation, good terms of business, service in many languages, and good customer service. All this comes at prices within the range of a decent deal in the medical alert industry. Yes, you must pay your own equipment shipment costs, but it's not a deal breaker.

They are in the top tier of providers in the industry, meriting a close look while you are shopping for a reputable medical alert system provider.
