LifeStation follows the lead of other top medical monitoring companies by offering great service with extra free features such as additional medical monitoring for another person in your household, like a spouse. However, they also offer a check-in service where representatives call in to ensure that everything is working correctly and that you are doing well. It's important to note, though, while some services offer this for free, LifeStation charges a fee.

LifeStation does offer one interesting and unique feature; when an emergency call is made to the station, two representatives handle it. This means that you don't have just one person helping you during a crisis, you have two. This ensures that the situation is handled properly and limits the possibility of mistakes being made.

Medical monitoring is known for helping in case of debilitating falls, but when a person suffers an incident where they are not able to speak clearly, it's also a potential life saver. Medical emergencies such as diabetic complications, stroke, heart attacks and fainting spells are examples where LifeStation can be of service. Help will be on the way instantly as long as you can push a button.

LifeStation only offers support for English speaking customers, while other top companies support over 100 languages. If you or your loved one speaks English as a second language or not at all, you may want to look at other services first.

LifeStation Technology

The LifeStation base station unit/console is simple to set up, you plug it into a phone jack and a power outlet and you are good to go. The base station has a big emergency button for contacting the monitoring center. It also has a "clear" button and four indicator lights labeled power, trouble, sending and home.

The base station can function as a two-way communication device, with a loud speaker and microphone, ensuring that monitoring center staff can communicate with you. The base station console microphone is sensitive enough to pick up your voice from virtually anywhere in your house, and the speaker is loud enough for you to hear throughout the house too. This level of high-tech functionality gives excellent coverage in case of emergency, and boosts confidence in the ability to live independently.

Included with your system is self-installation guide, providing easy to follow instructions. You will have the LifeStation system connected and ready to use in 5 minutes.

The wearable pendant provided with the medical monitoring system has a range of about 500 feet, providing coverage throughout most houses. The pendant is waterproof, so is wearable through the full range of daily chores and activities even if water is present.

The whole system auto-checks into the LifeStation monitoring center on a weekly basis, so you can rest assured that the system is activated and ready to bring help if and when it's needed. Should there be a blackout or power loss, the system continues to work with its built in back up battery providing 32 hours of standby power.

An added feature of the pendant, you can press the pendant to receive an incoming phone call, and can talk via the LifeStation speaker phone feature. This can save you the risk of trying to sprint to answer the phone when you are not near it.

Add On Features

There are a range of extra protection features available from LifeStation for a fee. A lockbox is available to keep an extra key handy, allowing emergency personnel to get into your house if you can't reach the door. LifeStation also sells extra help buttons for bathrooms and hallways in the case of problems out of reach of the pendant or base station.

The lockbox in particular is recommended by LifeStation. Emergency personnel are provided with the code to access the key in your lockbox to gain access to your home. They can enter your home to help without knocking down doors or breaking windows. This insures a smooth emergency intervention with no property damage bill to contend with.

For those who need a high level of protection, LifeStation offers a daily check in from a staff member. This service is called Activity Assurance and comes at an additional monthly fee.

Costs and Contracts

The base emergency medical alert service from LifeStation is in line with industry norms at about $25 per month. Your monthly fee remains the same as long as you continue service, unless of course you add more service features. There is no requirement to sign a long term contract, a real plus as many medical monitoring service providers do require that you lock in to a contract with them. You can cancel service with LifeStation at any time by providing them with 30 days' notice.

The LifeStation console and pendant, along with all equipment and devices, shop to you free of charge.

Customer Support

You can call the LifeStation toll free phone number 24/7 for technical, supervisory and operational help from qualified staff. There is also a well-organized FAQ page at their website, an excellent resource for all non-emergency questions. LifeStation covers costs on faulty equipment, including battery replacements.

LifeStation care specialists answer calls in 20 seconds or less when you press the help button on your base station console or pendant. Medical personnel are contacted, as well as friends, family or neighbors on you contact list. Those without the lockbox service may have people on the contact list available to open the door for medical responders. Dependable, well trained staff is always ready to serve.

Professional Staff

The call center staff is certified by the Central Station Alarm Association, meeting or exceeding the highest standards for monitoring center personnel.

Upon hiring, care specialist trainees must complete six weeks of classroom training. They move onto apprentice with a veteran mentor who certifies the trainee when they prove their skills. After this training process, new hires are subject to weekly performance reviews for the first three months on the job, followed by quarterly reviews. All LifeStation care specialists are evaluated on an ongoing basis.

When you or your loved one presses the button to call for help, the care specialist stays on the line until emergency help arrives.

Verdict - Good

LifeStation does a good job providing quality medical monitoring services at a fair price. With its thorough training of its professional staff, along with its service options, they are a company to consider in your search for a medical monitoring service. It's a real plus that two representatives handle each emergency call, providing extra peace of mind. Keep in mind that English is the only language supported, a key consideration in choosing a service for some.

As soon as I can I will be cancelling, as although they have helpful staff, the alert bracelets they send out are ridiculous. They are so chunky and uncomfortable. I will be going back to me old company.
