Medical Guardian Alert

Best Value Award 2016

Medical Guardian is a quality alert system that strives to offer some of the best features in the industry. With their service, options that would cost extra at other companies come standard. For instance, adding another member to your plan, like a spouse, comes at no additional charge. Plus, periodic check-ins are performed to make sure everything is alright with you and the system for free, which is a service that other providers either don't offer at all or they offer it for a fee.

With over 200 different languages, Medical Guardian also supports more languages than many other top providers. That means if you are looking for a good alert system for your mother and she speaks a foreign language, you are more likely to find support for the one you are looking for with Medical Guardian.

The features that do come at an extra cost are quite unique and may be well worth it for some. For instance, you can choose to add an extra pendant that is especially for slip and falls. If someone were to fall while wearing it, the device would automatically trigger a call for help. This is ideal for falls that may leave the wearer unconscious or otherwise incapacitated. The pendant is waterproof and has a battery life of 18-months. You can also purchase a mobile alert system that allows you to travel outside the range of your home's base station.

Cutting Edge Technology

Medical Guardian offers cutting edge medical alert technology at each service level, whether it's landline, cellular or mobile based. You can choose from a variety of equipment packages. There is the basic landline based system, a mobile enabled system with GPS, or technology that detects falls and brings help. The basic landline unit, the Classic Guardian, has an industry-leading call button to base station range, at around a quarter mile.

A Three Month Contract

The system comes with a three month contract and after that you can set up month to month contracts. Having to make a three month commitment may not be attractive to some buyers but for the service offered it is not a huge burden to most. At Medical Guardian, there are no activation or cancellation fees. The monthly fees for medical monitoring are in-line with industry standards, starting at just under $30 per month and going up a bit from there depending on which level of service and equipment you choose. While there are competitors starting basic medical monitoring at a nominally lower fee, Medical Alert delivers solid value for its service at each price point.

Medical Alert Service Options

Four different service packages are offered, starting with their Classic Guardian, with the lowest monthly fee for the landline based system with a range of 1300ft. The simple to use, easy to install system comes with a water resistant necklace or wrist pendant. This basic landline service from Medical Guardian also offers a wall mounted button option as an add-on service, further extending its range. The base console has 32 hour battery life, which more than covers common power outages. You or your elderly loved one can still get help for emergencies during power outages.

The next service level is the Home Guardian, based on cellular technology and costing a few dollars more per month. With many families opting for cellular phone service only, it's the perfect medical alert system for those with no landline. The system has a range of 600ft in every direction. The cellular base unit plugs into an electrical outlet and connects wirelessly via the AT&T cellular network.

The third service package, the Mobile Guardian, is based on GPS enabled mobile technology. It acts as a mobile version of your in-home base unit. You are free to take the base unit with you wherever you go, and activate it with the push of a button. It has a range of 350 feet from the base unit to your water resistant necklace or wrist pendant. The base unit comes with a handy leather carrying case, making it easy to bring anywhere with you.

The fourth level of service and technology offered by Medical Guardian is called the Premium Guardian. At a price jump of ten dollars per month over their third-tier service (Mobile Guardian), the monthly fee is getting up there for the medical alert industry at almost $50 per month. The Premium Guardian service offers GPS capabilities and cellular based coverage, and the pendant device travels with you wherever you go.

A Qualified Monitoring Staff

Each staff member of the Medical Guardian monitoring center is 911 certified. They have the training to handle your emergency medical call, and the authority to send an ambulance to assist you. Additionally, the service staff is authorized to call on your local police and fire departments in the case of a home invasion or fire. Having this level of professionalism backing up your medical alert system delivers solid peace of mind.

In case of emergency, the Medical Guardian staff also keeps your personal medical information on file, with the names of your preferred doctors and hospital. If you or a loved one is unconscious or otherwise unable to speak, this can literally be a life saver. Additionally, the staff has contact information for family members and trusted friends at hand should it be needed.

Customer Support Options

Customers can access the Medical Guardian staff via phone and email. For technical support with equipment installation and trouble shooting, the best way to contact them for step by step help is via live chat over the company website. The live chat is a stand-out customer service feature from Medical Guardian, not offered by many of their competitors. The website also offers a FAQ section and an informative blog, a good place to start when you need basic information to simple questions.

Verdict - Superb

Medical Guardian is an excellent option to investigate. The included features are incredibly convenient and the add-ons are also helpful. You can tailor a service package to your budget and technical needs, without long term contracts or activation fees. Clients feel confident that they are well protected with Medical Guardian, as their expert support staff is well equipped to handle emergencies.

This is really not worth the money. After signing up to their premium service I had so many technical problems and the technical support team could not help. Total waste of money, I can't feel safe knowing that if I don't have any cell connection it will not alert anyone.

Although they took a while to deliver, a few phone calls later, I am so pleased I subscribed. It gives me complete peace of mind.
