PetPlan Pet Insurance
Petplan has been commended for their coverage options, offerings and overall value. Petplan is a company that is dedicated to providing pet parents with the support and resources they need to keep their pets safe, happy and healthy.
Cofounders Natasha and Chris founded the company after going into debt to care for their sick pet. Petplan is headquartered in Newton Square, PA and is a sister company of Petplan UK which is the world's oldest and largest pet health insurer. Petplan is licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as select provinces in Canada.
Coverage and Benefits
Given the fact that one in three pets will need unexpected vet care this year, it's important for pet owners to explore insurance coverage options for their animal. PetPlan offers comprehensive coverage for medical expenses and conditions like veterinary exam fees, diagnostic treatments, surgery, prescription medications, imaging (mri, cat scan, ultrasound), cancer treatments, dental treatments, rehabilitation, behavioral therapies and more. Their bronze, silver and gold packages each come with distinct insurance options including veterinary exams, prescription treatments, surgery and many other procedures.
Petplan defines a pre-existing condition as one which "first occurred or showed clinical signs or symptoms before the effective date of your policy or during the policy waiting period." In certain instances, if the pre-existing condition can be cured, you may be eligible for coverage. One of the great things about Petplan is that you can use your family veterinarian or any other licensed vet in the country as well as some locations in Canada. Check their coverage area on their website to learn more.
Pet parents will be assured to know that Petplan offers life-long coverage for hereditary and chronic conditions (with no hidden limits/exclusions) including cancer, prescription medications, dental treatments, CAT scans, and MRIs. This is a company that understands that many pets will develop ongoing medical conditions throughout their lives like diabetes, hip dysplasia and arthritis and they want to be there to provide the much needed coverage and support for those animals and their families.
Petplan shares real examples of a few of the animals they've helped with their Covered for Life policy on their website and that includes Maddie, a 4-year-old mix breed dog living in San Diego, CA. Maddie has cruciate ligament disease with arthritis and over the course of three years, Petplan has been able to provide $17,621 worth of coverage for her medical needs.
One of the big disadvantages of Petplan pet insurance is that routine vet exams and office visits like wellness exam are not covered. Petplan also doesn't cover elective procedures so if your animal does not absolutely need a medical procedure or service, and you elect to have it done, you may be on your own when the bills comes in.
While Petplan offers quality coverage for hereditary and chronic conditions, there are annual limits that you should consider. Keep these things in mind when comparing your option and trying to find a pet insurance company that will best suit your animal and their needs.
Plans and Pricing
PetPlan offers free enrollment to their services in addition to a 30-day money back guarantee, so long as no claim has been filed in that thirty-day period.
