LG K8V Review: Key Features

Last Updated:

The LG K8V is a super affordable mid range Android smartphone exclusive to Verizon. Excelling at all the basic functions you have come to expect from a smartphone these days, as well as hiding some neat tricks up its sleeve, the K8V is a solid choice for budgeters, seniors, or as a child's first mobile phone.

Thinking about buying the LG K8V? Let's take a look at some of its key features before you make a decision.

The high-end segment of the smartphone space is dominated by Apple, Samsung, and Google. For this reason--and several others--most Android manufacturers focus their efforts in the sorely lacking mid and low range smartphone space, for people who want a high-end experience without draining their wallets. The LG K8V is firmly in the midrange of smartphones: it packs in great software and decent specs. It does lack some of the bells and whistles of its flagship counterparts, but it has plenty of

The LG K8V is firmly in the midrange of smartphones: it packs in great software and decent specs. It does lack some of the bells and whistles of its flagship counterparts, but it has plenty of grunt where it counts for things like web browsing, gaming, and social media. At the affordable price tag, it's sure to please the average cell phone user.

With a quad-core, 1.3Ghz processor and 1.5GB of RAM, there's enough punch in the LG K8V to keep up with all of your swipes, touches, and taps. It didn't stutter when launching multiple apps or loading web pages, however, we did notice some sluggishness while playing more intensive games or starting up the camera. Simpler games, however, feel silky smooth. With a removable 2125 mAh battery, you'll have enough juice to play games, surf the web, or stream video all day long.

Standing at about 5.7" tall and a little on the chunky side, the LG K8V feels sturdy and is comfortable to hold and operate with one hand. The compact design also lends itself to a 5", 720p HD display. For the price range, this lower resolution is perfectly adequate, but don't expect mind blowing detail or vividness. Still, the screen is bright even while outdoors, and colors are sharp.

There are a few downsides to make a note of.

First, the internal storage is severely limited to 8GB. To make matters worse, the preloaded software, Android OS, and dense UI skin LG include consumes up enough space to leave you with an insulting 3.34GB of storage. Sliding in a microSD card is a necessity.

The 8 MP low-resolution rear camera is also unimpressive. Even in bright line, photos are hazy and lack detail. The front camera takes decent selfies but suffers from similar issues.
