Buy a Cheap Samsung Galaxy Note5

Last Updated:

As you've might have noticed, Samsung has been alternately releasing two major flagships over the past few years - the Samsung Galaxy S and the Samsung Galaxy Note series.

While the Note 8 has launched, it is wallet-crippling expensive, and the Note 7 has become nothing more than a mere memory thanks to its "explosive" debut with the battery debacle.

This leaves budget-conscious consumers with one "modern," pen-based alternative to the Note 8 - the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. But does the Note 5 remain viable as a used device? You bet it can hold its own well.

There are some flaws that may disappoint, but it's difficult to deny that the Note 5 is a great alternative for those who cannot afford the Note 8, which is valued at close to $1,000.

The Galaxy Note 5 is a larger-than-typical smartphone that you can purchase used (and potentially refurbished) for a far cheaper price. After a little more than two years since its release, it remains a powerful and useful phone, especially for artists, writers, and note takers.

If you're interested in a used, cheap Note 5, then you should consider the fact that it may be unlocked after the purchase, meaning that you can transfer the phone to any carrier you'd like as long as the provider supports the phone and you have the necessary SIM card.

Additionally, if you're unsure as to what cell phone plan you should adopt, then you should refer to our cell phone plan comparison tool.

As far as the design goes, the phablet stands at 5.7 inches and comes complete with a glass back and screen, meaning that it is rather fragile. Personally, I would recommend a case, as my Note 5 suffered a screen crack after being dropped two feet and landing sideways on wood - but not before the blow was softened by a pair of feet.

Unfortunately, while the Note 5 sports a premium, modern look, there are some flaws to said design. For one, the Note 5 is slippery due to the glass construction. Secondly, and it may be a deal-breaker, the Note 5 doesn't feature an expandable storage slot, so you're stuck with the internal memory amount you opt for.

Finally, and again, this could turn buyers away, the battery is not removable, but the idea of the removable battery has gone the way of the dodo for some time now - at least for Apple and Samsung.

The display is definitely worth a mention, however. The pixel density is much higher, as it sports a 2560 x 1440 display, even when compared to the iPhone X. As for the camera, it still remains sharp and can hold its own, even when compared to the newer smartphone models. Even better is that you can take advantage of 4K or 60fps video with the phone.

The battery life is nothing to scoff at, packing a 3,000mAh battery. Additionally, the Note 5 supports rapid charging, meaning that your phone will be charged relatively quickly. According to some field reports, the charge will increase from 1 to 60 percent in just 40 minutes.

Finally, we have the S Pen, which has improved since the Note 4. It remains sensitive, and you're able to pull out the pen whenever you'd like thanks to the slot on the right-hand side of the phone.

While the Note 5 won't receive the major Android Oreo update, we still highly recommend this phone. It's sharp, it sports a sleek design, and its camera and pixel density still stand with the phones of today.

For the best price of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, it's best to check for prices online. You'll find Note 5's that will likely be for sale at a cheaper price online compared to what you'd find at physical retail stores. However, it's important to compare prices of refurbished Note 5 models from the top resellers to ensure you'll receive the best price.
