Many tablets out there in the market today have been touted as a 'laptop killer.' With larger and larger screens, more powerful processors, portability, and a slew of interesting features, tablets have grown in the past few years to firmly slot their place between the convenience of a smartphone and the pure productivity of a laptop. What does that mean for the iPad Pro? Well, it declares loudly that perhaps you don't need a laptop. Perhaps.

The design of the latest iPad Pro won't bat any eyelashes. See one iPad and you've seen them all. That's not a bad thing, however. The spartan design is clean, the swooping curved edges are attractive, and the ceramic back is grippy and everything feels premium. The tablet runs a sleek, compact profile that easily slips into a bag and all in all it weighs under a pound.

The screen on the 10.5" iPad Pro is one of the best screens on a tablet to date. The decreased bezel increases the screen's overall size whilst retaining a smaller chassis, and the larger real estate to play with means there's room for improvements under the hood. The 1668 x 2224 resolution display looks downright beautiful. Images are detailed, colors are accurate and pop, and everything is bright and legible--even in direct sunlight. The anti-glare screen helps reduce frustration about trying to read or watch TV while outside. Audio hasn't seen a critical update for this iteration. The four speakers don't quite fill the room with booming surround sound, but they offer crisp, clear sound.

No matter the task, the iPad Pro is up to handle it. The fastest Apple tablet yet, the iPad Pro runs on the latest A10X Fusion chipset and architecture. Simply put: anything you do on it will perform quickly, responsively, and with a snap to it. Swiping through menus or navigating the clean UI is simple. Apps launch without a stutter and the camera, which is usually a cause for concern from other tablets when it comes to speed, is sleek. Photos process quickly and the shutter closes fast, letting you take more action photos than ever before.

Running the latest iOS software, the iPad Pro shines more like a Mac with a touchscreen than a tablet. There's a new file system for easy organization you can access from anywhere, and a larger, customizable dock you can access with a swipe. There's also support for the Apple Pen, which is a solid stylus but is criminally underused. The updated 4GB of RAM keeps things running smoothly, and the decent battery lets you keep moving for hours. The generous 64GB internal storage can hold on to your favorite apps, games, photos, and work projects.

Unfortunately, the asking price is a little high for a tablet. Then again, we live in a world where our smartphones easily pass that $1000 mark so who am I kidding? Still, the iPad Pro is worth the hefty cost. It's a premium tablet in landscape lacking luxury models--other than Apple tablets, of course.

You get a handy device that is more portable than a laptop with the same degree of productivity with extra features like Apple's App Store, some great cameras, the Apple Pen, and regular support and security updates.
