Key Considerations When Choosing a Streaming Service

There are a few things to keep in mind when deciding which service is for you.

  1. Price: Obviously this will be one of the main factors you take into account. If you're planning on putting together a set of several TV services to provide your content you'll want to keep a close eye on the monthly cost of each one. Individually, the vast majority of them stay under the cable price point with no problem.
  2. Content: Are you a binge-watcher who needs your favorite TV shows? Maybe movies or sports are your main events. Content differs between providers, including premium extras. For example, not every service gives you the option of HBO, while others are weak on live sports.
  3. Internet speed: You'll need good solid high-speed internet to get the most out of your streaming service. Look for a bare minimum of 3 Mbps for one person, and at least 5 Mbps for HD video. Compare the best internet providers.
  4. Free trials/discounts: Not sure whether a service is for you? No problem - most offer a free trial so you can see if it's a good fit. You can also find promos quite often, with a discounted rate for a limited time.

fuboTV Prices

The pricing for fubo is a bit higher than others, although still not as much as a solid cable package. The thing about this streaming service is that you're getting specialty sports channels that you won't find included in cheap cable TV plans.

Where it starts to get a little bit spendy is if you add several of the extras. Then you're going to be looking at a pretty hefty bill. If you just subscribe to one of the basic plans it's pretty affordable for the unique coverage you get.

As I mentioned, fubo offers a pretty extensive selection of add-on options. Each one runs less than about $10, except for NBA League Pass which is almost $30 per month.

Optional packages include:

  • DVR Plus - 500 hours of recording time
  • Family Share - adds a third available stream so you can share your account with family or friends
  • Sports Plus - 21 additional sports channels like Fox College Sports, TyC Sports, and NFL RedZone
  • Showtime - all 9 Showtime channels
  • NBA League Pass - 30 channels of NBA coverage
  • Latino Plus - 11 channels including sports and entertainment

fuboTV Sports

Now we come to the centerpiece of fubo TV - sports. Here's what you need to know about the sports coverage offered through this streaming service:

  • It's excellent for soccer coverage - fubo started out as a soccer streaming service, then expanded, so it only makes sense that it's the place to go for soccer. You'll see FIFA World Cup, La Liga, Premier League, plus Fox Soccer and a ton more.
  • You'll also find a decent range of sports not widely available elsewhere - rugby, cycling, tennis, golf, boxing, and much more.
  • Most of the major sports networks are available - Fox Sports, NBCSN, CBS Sports Network, NFL Network, etc.
  • ESPN is not available on fuboTV, oddly enough.
  • There's a good range of college and regional sports networks, including Big Ten and PAC-12 networks.
  • All plans come with Eleven Sports, which you won't find with most other cable or streaming services.

fuboTV Compatible Devices

The fuboTV app works with the standard range of streaming devices, such as:

  • Android phones and tablets
  • iPhone and iPad
  • 4th and later gens of Apple TV
  • Roku
  • Amazon Fire TV
  • Chromecast

Of course, you can also watch from the website (fubo recommends the Chrome browser).

fuboTV User Experience

As with all streaming TV apps, there can be some glitches and lack of specific features you might want.

Here's what you should know before subscribing to fubo:

  • Simple, user-friendly interface
  • Ability to record the entire program even from the middle
  • Recordings are padded
  • Live sports organized by day and event

  • Search functionality lacking
  • Live TV doesn't always include a playback timeline so that you can go back to the start
  • No preview on playback timeline
  • Menu/rewind/fast forward buttons stay up a long time on mobile

Benefits of Streaming TV

Why subscribe to streaming TV? Cord cutting, as it's termed, offers several advantages over traditional TV viewing options:

  • Save money: If you're smart about your choices (don't sub to every single streaming provider just to have it), becoming one of the millions of cord cutters can save you a bundle on your television costs. This holds true even when you include the cost of internet (which you'd likely have anyway).
  • You're in control: Streaming is about as close as you'll get to custom design your own TV package. There are so many different options, with a focus on just about every entertainment genre you can imagine. That means you decide what's available to you rather than paying for 300 channels and only watching five of them.
  • No contracts: Streaming TV services are typically sold on a month-to-month basis. Don't like it? Prices go up? Cancel your service. Simple and commitment free!

The best streaming TV providers give you what you want at a great price and available at your fingertips at any time.

Bottom line:

  • fuboTV is ideal for heavy-duty international sports fans.
  • You get channels that are only available in expensive upper-tier cable packages.
  • fubo is not a full-on complete entertainment provider, i.e. if movie channels are your go-to, this probably isn't the right streaming provider for you.
