Highlights

  • T-Mobile's 5G Home Internet service is set to increase to $60/mo for new customers starting January 18, 2024.
  • The price lock guarantee will no longer apply to new customers.
  • T-Mobile promises a free month of service if prices increase.
  • Incentives, special offers, and bundle discounts are available for new customers.

As we navigate the evolving world of home internet options, T-Mobile is about to change the game for its 5G Home Internet service.

This adjustment comes as T-Mobile ends its price lock guarantee, signaling a significant shift in its service offerings for new customers. At the time of publication, they include:

  • T-Mobile voice line customers can secure the service at $50/mo.
  • New customers of the Premium Plan can enjoy a rate of $40/mo.
  • Additional new customer incentives - $150 prepaid Mastercard and a 15-day money-back guarantee.

Starting January 18, 2024, new T-Mobile 5G Home Internet customers will face a $10 monthly increase, bringing the service cost to $60/month.

This includes a $5 charge for non-autopay users but offers a discounted $50/month rate for existing T-Mobile voice line customers.

The end of the price-lock guarantee marks a pivotal change, but T-Mobile is trying to soften the blow by offering a cancellation option with a free month of service should rates increase.

The upcoming price adjustment and the discontinuation of the price lock guarantee could influence potential customers' decisions.

My take

While I applaud T-Mobile for using its vast 5G network to provide a viable alternative to the standard internet options, it's not without reservation, especially in light of this most recent price hike.

Just like traditional internet companies, big wireless has a long history of hiking prices and leaving customers feeling marooned without a liferaft.

While 5G Home Internet service providers like T-Mobile aren't perfect, they seem to remain focused on delivering high-quality, reliable internet access at prices that are still lower than cable, fiber, or satellite internet.

These changes reflect the company's strategy to adapt to market demands while ensuring customers access competitive pricing and benefits.
