Highlights

  • T-Mobile leads the pack with 934,000 postpaid phone net additions in Q4 2023.
  • Reports over $12 million in postpaid service revenues and a $2 billion net income for the quarter.
  • CEO Mike Sievert teases further growth and value creation, emphasizing this is just the start for T-Mobile.

T-Mobile once again outshines its rivals in the final quarter of 2023, not just meeting but exceeding analyst predictions for customer growth.

The mobile giant welcomed 934,000 new postpaid phone customers, a clear indication of its leading market position and customer appeal.

Q4 of 2023 wasn't just about adding customers...

T-Mobile also boasted significant financial achievements, with postpaid service revenues exceeding $12 million and net income reaching $2 billion.

CEO Mike Sievert is not resting on these laurels. He is hinting at an ambitious future for the "un-carrier" with plans aimed at sustained growth and market leadership. "We're entering a phase of enormous value creation," Sievert stated, pointing towards exciting developments ahead for T-Mobile.

T-Mobile's fixed wireless access (FWA) service also continues to grow, adding 541,000 high-speed internet customers in Q4 and reaching 4.8 million FWA customers by year-end.

Although a recent T-Mobile home internet price hike was implemented, T-Mobile expects future growth to remain robust, driven by increased awareness and improved service quality.

With all major carriers reporting their Q4 results, the focus turns to the source of subscriber growth.

The shift from prepaid to postpaid plans is noted as a significant trend, but is it an accurate reflection of customer needs?

My take

T-Mobile's remarkable performance in Q4 2023 reaffirms its position as a frontrunner in the telecom industry. This is undeniable.

But at what cost?

As T-Mobile continues to innovate, including partnerships like SpaceX for direct satellite-to-cellular communications and the anticipated acquisition of Mint Mobile, the future looks promising.

CEO Sievert assures that while prices may adjust industry-wide, T-Mobile's commitment to value remains unwavering. With more price hikes on the horizon, time will tell if the "un-carrier" has adopted the same pricing strategies as the other big guys.
