Charter Communication's Spectrum, is branching out from your typical home phone, cable, and internet provider. In June 2018 Spectrum launched Spectrum Mobile - a wireless service that operates on the Verizon 4G LTE network.
Spectrum Mobile is just one of the many U.S. operating mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs). MVNOs are low-cost carriers that rent space from one or more of the four major wireless networks (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint).
By not having large overheads that come with towers and advertising they can sell the same mobile service to you at a much lower rate.

There are some stipulations that come with this plan. Much like the XFINITY Mobile plan, this provider requires you already have internet with them.
In fact, in order to utilize Spectrum Mobile, you must have Spectrum Internet service, purchase a new Spectrum mobile phone, sign up for auto pay, and meet the applicable credit requirements.

Spectrum Mobile Cell Phone Plans
Spectrum Mobile plans are either "by the gig " or you can choose their one unlimited data plan. The "by the gig" option is going to give you the best deal but only if you use low amounts of data (i.e. 3GB or less a month per device). If you use 4GB or more you'll want to go with the unlimited plan as it will be cheaper than paying by the gig.
All plans include unlimited talk and text.
Although the competitive chart shows that you can save quite a bit by switching to Spectrum Mobile it's worth noting that your monthly increases after you add your monthly phone payments. See Spectrum phone options for more details.
For that reason, you should keep an eye out for other Verizon MVNOs and take a look at our cell phone plan calculator to see which one of those will give you the best price on the Verizon network.

Spectrum Mobile Coverage
As previously mentioned Spectrum Mobile runs on the Verizon 4G LTE network which means you'll get the same reliable coverage that Verizon customers enjoy. The only difference is if you ever have an issue with your phone/coverage you'll need to contact Spectrum customer service instead of Verizon.
If you're not sure if Verizon covers the area you live be sure to check out our Spectrum Mobile coverage map before you begin.

Spectrum Mobile Phone Options
Spectrum Mobile leaves you with very little options when it comes to phones. In order to utilize Spectrum Mobile you'll need to purchase a phone through them.
Although they do have the newest and most popular mobile devices with iPhone, Android, and Google phones available to you, you'll still end up paying for the device on a monthly basis just like you would with any of the big four carriers, essentially taking major savings away from you that you would normally get from an MVNO.
Most MVNOs allow you to bring your own phone (BYOP) which then gives you the option to buy your phone outright from whatever carrier you're currently making payments to or purchase a more affordable refurbished phone and take that with you to your new low-cost carrier.
If this is something you're interested in you should check out the many MVNOs that allow you to do this.
If you're still interested in switching to Spectrum Mobile you should look into selling your old phone with one of these reputable sellers. Then you can put the money towards your new phone/plan or pocket it for whatever you like.
Key Considerations when Choosing Spectrum Mobile
If this seems like a lot of information to take in, don't feel alone. While MVNOs are common and well-embraced in the UK the US is still just dipping our toe in the water. Here are a few questions you may have, that we'll be sure to go over.
- Is my location within the Spectrum Mobile coverage area?
- Am I able to get Spectrum Internet service in my area?
- Are you a light to moderate data user?
- Are you able to bring your own device?
Before you switch, be sure to check out what real customers are saying about Spectrum mobile.
