One of the biggest selling points I found was the variety of Comcast internet plans you have access to through XFINITY high-speed internet services. Below is a closer look at the XFINITY internet plans offered and how they are applicable to your needs.

  • Performance Starter: This is its most basic offering, where you will receive good XFINITY internet speeds, the security suite through Norton and more for an affordable price. On this plan, you can connect up to two devices.
  • Performance 25: This high-speed internet service boosts your download speed, allowing you to stream music and TV shows on up to four devices.
  • Performance Pro: If you are a gamer, this package is right for you, as it comes with lightning fast download speeds and the capability to connect up to eight devices.
  • Blast! Pro: With this package, you have to fast download speeds. Moreover, it can handle more than eight connected devices.

It's important to note these four XFINITY internet plans require a one-year contract. The following two plans listed below require a two-year commitment from you.

  • Extreme 250: Provides amazingly quick download speeds, making it a suitable option if you run a personal business out of your home, have multiple gamers or need ample speeds to provide access to a more than eight devices.
  • Gigabit Pro: The penultimate plan from Comcast XFINITY gives you the fastest internet speeds available. As this Comcast gigabit internet is the quickest, it is the most expensive offering too, so it's only applicable from a budgetary standpoint if you require that much speed.

Business Internet

There is also another set of internet plans that you can consider if you're managing a business: Comcast Business. In other words, Comcast is just one of several providers that offer business internet. You can sort the Comcast business internet selection by Small & Medium Business or Enterprise. Business Internet ranges from Starter Internet (for one to two employees at 16Mbps) to Deluxe 150 Internet, which is ideal for over 10 employees.

Business Internet comes with a variety of features, including 24/7 local customer support, a dynamic IP address, access to millions of XFINITY WiFi Hotspots, no data caps, and Business WiFi access.

Internet Essentials

There is also one other internet option available from Comcast, dubbed Internet Essentials.

Internet Essentials is for those who fall under the low-income bracket. Not only does Internet Essentials include 10Mbps internet service for roughly $10 per month, but those who can participate in the program - i.e., those who must have a child eligible for the National School Lunch Program - will enjoy no activation fees or equipment rental fees.

Not only that, but they will have the option to purchase a computer for just $150 and have access to free internet training online, in print and in person.

How Fast is Comcast XFINITY?

As I examined the XFINITY high-speed internet offerings, it became apparent it offers speeds for every need, making it a great choice in this regard. While the XFINITY internet speeds can vary, depending on the plans offered in your respective service areas, you have access to download speeds ranging from 10 Mbps to 2,000 Mbps. In fact, it has only been recent that Comcast has introduced ultra-fast internet with its fiber-optic network. The 2Gbps fiber-optic network option has even been available to nearly 18 million homes. And yes, this Comcast Gigabit 2Gbps option is faster than Google fiber. Google fiber only supplies users with up to 1Gbps.

If you are unfamiliar with the speeds you require, here are a couple of illustrations of activities you might do online and the needed download speed for each:

  • Internet surfing: 1 Mbps
  • Streaming video: 4 Mbps
  • Gaming online: 5 Mbps

By knowing what your main web activities require in the way of speed, it can help you choose the best plan.

Bundles

Similar to other internet service providers, Comcast's XFINITY bundles, which we cover more in-depth here, offer deals where you can package multiple services to save money. Below is a look at two of its most popular bundle options.

Double Play

The XFINITY Double Play package combines the Comcast internet service with XFINITY cable TV packages. You receive internet service with download speeds as fast as 25 Mbps, with the option to upgrade to its speedier Blast! Package. This particular XFINITY Double Play bundle is suitable if you need to connect as many as eight or more devices to access the internet.

What's important to note about this Comcast cable and internet package is it requires a two-year contract. Furthermore, if you elect to upgrade your internet service to its Blast! speeds, you only receive it for the first year. After that, you can keep the upgrade, but you'll pay more for it.

Triple Play

XFINITY Triple Play combines Comcast internet service, XFINITY cable TV, and home phone service. Outside of offering phone service, what makes this package unique is the fact you have up to three internet speed choices, including 25 Mbps, 75 Mbps, and 150 Mbps. XFINITY TV options are much more vast, but you can - depending on your location - typically receive anywhere between 140 channels and 260 channels. Of course, you can also opt for the XFINITY Latino packages as well.

Except for the XFINITY TV package included in the Starter XF Triple Play bundle, the available bundles come equipped with high-definition video and programming. It's important to note that the high-definition video technology fee is included in the bundle charges. You'll also have access to XFINITY Voice Unlimited. XFINITY Voice Unlimited includes unlimited nationwide talk and text on all WiFi-enabled devices.

It is also good to note that, with these packages, you'll be able to receive several nifty perks, including XFINITY On Demand service, which grants you access to thousands of films and shows on demand. To clarify, you can access XFINITY On Demand when you select singular TV packages.

Prices, Plans, & Perks

The pricing for the Comcast cable internet plans comes down to the speed you need. Therefore, if you require faster speeds, you'll pay more for service. Look at the speeds and pricing for each plan of XFINITY internet service you can choose.

When you procure a Comcast service, you'll be able to extend those services to your mobile devices with the XFINITY Connect App. The XFINITY Connect App allows you to access your Comcast.net email, access your home phone voicemails, complete with readable voicemail transcripts, send and receive free text messages to more than 30 countries with XFINITY Voice, make outbound calls and answer calls made to your XFINITY Voice phone number, view Caller ID, view Address Book, manage your account, and make and receive video calls.

This allows you to have more flexibility concerning your internet needs. In addition, depending on the XFINITY Triple Play package you select, you can receive a locked in rate for two years, with a two-year contract, or you can have a lower price for one year.

Service Availability

To see if the internet service provider is available in your area, all you have to do is visit the official Comcast website. When there, scroll down the main page to the middle, where it will have your location or the ability to enter your physical address. Once entered, you will have access to all its services and plans offered in your area.

Of course, you can use our convenient zip code checker tool to find out if XFINITY Internet is in your area.

Comcast XFINITY Customer Support

For many, the quality of the Comcast customer service can be an influential factor in determining if the provider is right for them. Comcast XFINITY has been notorious for offering poor service to the point Trim created a chatbot for dealing with Comcast XFINITY's bad support.

To this point, I scoured through the list of customer reviews on Consumer Affairs. What I found was a similar pattern in those many customers who have had Comcast XFINITY services have experienced billing issues. The most common ones were promotions not applied as advertised and people receiving spikes in their bills with no notification from the provider.

Note: If you have used its services before, feel free to add your review on our page to share your experience with our readers.

Speaking of bills, one thing you should know about its services is it has hidden fees. To demonstrate, if you want the self-install kit, you have to pay $15 for it, while other internet providers like AT&T not only will offer free installation, it will do it for you.

Furthermore, there are no standard prices on in-home installation. Depending on your area, you could pay a wide range of prices, so it's important to seek this information before signing up for its services.

Customer reviews and company reputation are two great ways to determine whether or not you might enjoy a Comcast internet plan. Comcast scored a 59/100 on the American Customer Satisfaction Index, far below the average score amongst its competitors.

On the Better Business Bureau, Comcast is not an Accredited Business, but it has a B+ score. Trustpilot, a website that ranks companies purely from customer reviews, rates Comcast a 3.7/10. Keep in mind that the experiences of one customer are not representative of the company as a whole, but it is important to spot potential issues you may have with the company early nonetheless.

Independent agencies tested Comcast XFINITY's support and rated it as follows:

  • Consumer Reports: 54/100
  • JD Power: 2 out of 5

If you do need assistance, you can call Comcast XFINITY, chat with one of its agents on the Comcast website or by visiting a local store. In my experience, the quickest way to receive the answers you seek is to do it through mobile chat.

How to Find XFINITY Deals

The best way to receive internet deals through Comcast XFINITY is to take advantage of introductory periods the provider offers. Typically, around the holidays, it will offer great deals on some of its most popular packages, so you can receive the full suite of services at an affordable price.

Bundling is almost always going to be your best bet if you want more than internet service. With this, you'll be able to receive a lower price, because you receive more incentives to use its services.

Is XFINITY Right For You?

Comcast XFINITY provides an ample array of entertainment options, making them a great choice if you want cable and internet bundles. Along with offering internet and XFINITY digital cable TV service, XFINITY from Comcast offers home phone options, otherwise known as XFINITY Voice. To learn more about the best home phone services, which includes XFINITY Voice, take a look at our guide.

Surprisingly, XFINITY not only hosts internet, TV, and phone services, but also home security services. Yes, XFINITY home security is available, complete with 24/7 Professional Monitoring, Alerts and Video Monitoring, and Lighting and Thermostat Control. The XFINITY Home Security Package is rather affordable, but the professional installation is rather costly, so keep that in mind if you decide to look into the plan.

Benefits

One of the main selling points I found with the XFINITY service is how versatile it is. When you sign up for the Comcast XFINITY internet service, you have access to a wide range of speeds, depending on your needs and budget. What's more, you also have access to WiFi in every room of your house.

How this works is when you have service through Comcast XFINITY, you have the option to rent the XFINITY Wireless Gateway, which serves as both a router and cable modem. Of course, if you're not willing to rent the provider's cable modem, you can always purchase a cable modem from the provider's approved list. By using this equipment, you'll receive a WiFi hotspot you can access in every room of your home. Therefore, if you are seeking wireless internet access service, it is a good choice to consider.

Furthermore, to keep your information protected, the Comcast XFINITY internet service gives you its Constant Guard. Constant Guard provides you with unmatched protection with the top-rated security software and services, including Norton Security Suite (which is featured in our review of the "Best Antivirus Software"), Norton Mobile Security, Bot Detection and Removal, Identity Guard, XFINITY Toolbar, and Freedome VPN. Overall, this suite of services protects you when surfing online and comes standard with any internet plan you select.

Another area that makes its service appealing to me is its self-install kit. Once you sign up for internet service, Comcast XFINITY will mail you the kit, which includes all the equipment you need to activate services and instructions for installation. You won't have to deal with scheduling conflicts or pricey installation fees.

Another appealing feature brought to you by Comcast? You can watch Netflix - which is included in the XFINITY pricing - with Comcast's X1 interactive television box, which is included in the bundles. However, according to Wired, since Netflix supports net neutrality or the idea that ISPs should treat all internet traffic with equality, this move has been speculated to fan the flames that are fueling the net neutrality war.

Detriments

At the same time, this can be a detriment too, particularly, if you don't feel comfortable setting up equipment. If you find yourself in this situation, it is best to access the guides online or visit YouTube for installation instructions, as its customer service is far from helpful.

Another considerable negative? Comcast has a bit of a usage-based billing system occurring with its internet services.

You're granted with 1TB of internet data usage each month, which is part of your monthly XFINITY internet service. Where the usage-based billing system comes in is that if you exceed the 1TB data cap, the service will add blocks of 50GB to your account for a certain monthly price. However, you will have two courtesy months where you will not be billed if you exceed 1TB.

Lastly, when you have internet service through it, you can download its XFINITY WiFi app on your mobile phone. Then, when you go out, you can access hotspots throughout the city for free. This allows you to access all the information you need without draining through your cellular data.

Recap

Comcast XFINITY delivers a wide array of internet packages and speeds to give you some of the best internet deals around. While its customer support is among the worst in the industry, if you don't need much in the way of service you can mitigate this. Overall, its pricing and selection make it one of the best internet providers.
