Pure Talk USA Plans

PureTalk, which relies on the U.S.' largest GSM network (it's an AT&T MVNO), features plans beginning at just $10 per month, making it one of the most affordable services available to you.

However, if you want unlimited talk and text message, you'll have to pay a little more, though the mobile plans are still plenty affordable compared to the big four carriers - that is until you want to add a data pack. Even better is the fact that the phone service is simplified - in other words, no contracts, no long distance fees, no roaming fees, and no additional handset fees.

Even better is the fact that you may be able to take advantage of promotions and promo codes. Check out their website--they usually run promotions frequently.

And if you need further incentive, the service features phone number portability. You can port your phone number to PureTalk with ease. After all, not everyone likes to change their phone number as they switch services.

Nevertheless, let's go over the types of plans real quick.

  • Senior AddVantage Plan - Yes, this service offers a discount for senior citizens. You can choose between two major options - Senior AddVantage 300, which grants you 300 minutes, 50MB of data, and 50MMS, or the Senior AddVantage 600, which provides you with 600 minutes, 100MB of data, and 100MMS. However, you can also add on a data pack to your plan. You can choose to add 400 MB and 200MMS or 1GB of data and 400MMS.
  • Simple Plan - The Simple Plan is a flex plan, which costs the same as a Senior AddVantage plan. You'll also have the same options - for instance, you can choose between Simple 300 or Simple 600 and add either a 400MB and 200MMS pack or a 1GB and 400MMS plan.
  • Unlimited Plus Plan - Do you prefer more talk and text messages? Well, you'll be able to then take advantage of the Unlimited Plus Plan, the unlimited plan that provides you with unlimited talk and text. You can also pick a high-speed data package to go along with your unlimited plan, though to be frank, these data packages are a tad high compared to other MVNOs and even the big four carriers. Plans range between 200MB of data and 200MMS to 4GB of data and unlimited MMS.
  • Family Plan - Need a family flex plan? Well, PureTalk has made it simple for you. All you need to do is add two or more lines to your plan and you'll be able to save! How much? Well, you'll save 10 percent off your total bill if you add a second line, 15 percent off your total bill if you add a third line, and 20 percent off your total bill if you add a fourth line.

PureTalk features international calling, but unfortunately, you won't be able to save money when you do. On the other hand, you'll be able to learn about international calling with one of PureTalk's FAQs.

Pure Talk's Phone Selection

Looking for a new phone to possibly go along with the PureTalk service? Well, you may end up a little disappointed, as you won't find the latest and greatest smartphones (or even the previous iterations of well-known series, like the Samsung Galaxy).

In other words, if you're looking for the Apple iPhone SE, you'll be out of luck. If you're hoping for a Samsung Galaxy S7 or even S6, you won't find it with PureTalk, at least not at the time of this writing. It's unfortunate, but you'll certainly find more budget-friendly phones at PureTalk. For instance, you'll be able to find the Android phones ZTE Z222, the Alcatel Ideal, Alcatel A392, Samsung Galaxy Express 3, Alcatel Pixia 5, Kyocera Duraforce, Alcatel Pop4 Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S5. However, as far as Apple iPhones go, you only have one option - the Apple iPhone 6S.

Of course, you can always bring your own phone to the service provider, but according to official FAQ regarding what phones are compatible:

"If your phone was through the following carriers, it is not compatible. Verizon/Alltel, Boost, Sprint/Nextel, MetroPCS, Virgin Mobile, Page Plus. If your existing phone was used with T-Mobile, TracFone, Net10 or other GSM providers, it will have to be unlocked to work with our services. To check to see if it is unlocked, simply place a different type of SIM chip in it. The phone will show that SIM carrier on your phone if your phone is unlocked. If your phone is AT&T or Cingular, our SIM chip should be compatible."

If you decide on purchasing PureTalk service, you'll need to activate said service. To do so, you just need to go to the activation page on the official website. However, you'll first need to input your PureTalk Sim Card number before you can activate your phone.

SIM Card

Need a SIM card? Well if you purchase a phone directly from PureTalk, you'll be able to receive a free SIM card. However, if you're planning on bringing your own phone, you'll have to purchase a SIM starter kit for just a few bucks.

Pure Talk Cellular Coverage Map

Since PureTalk is an AT&T MVNO, it relies on AT&T coverage. In other words, you'll receive cell phone coverage from a GSM network that is only second to Verizon's coverage. To ensure that you'll receive coverage in your area, please check out Pure Talk's coverage map. To learn more about AT&T's coverage, you can refer to our article, "Who Has the Best Cell Phone Coverage?"

Customer Service

If you need help with your service or have any questions that are in need of answering, then you'll be pleased to know that PureTalk has two methods of contact. For one, you can contact the service by e-mail - all you'll need to input is your name, your email, contact number, and your question (or comment, if you have one).

Otherwise, you can contact the PureTalk team via phone number at 1-877-820-7873. However, the customer service team is not available 24 hours. Customer service is available Monday through Saturday from 9AM to 6PM EST, though on Sunday the service is completely closed. Technical support sports the same hours.

How to Change APN Settings

If you're bringing a used phone to Pure Talk, you'll most likely need to change your APN settings. View the APN Settings for Pure Talk here.

Who Should Consider a Pure Talk Plan?

Those who don't need a lot of minutes or even much data should consider a PureTalk Plan. Unfortunately, if you're data hungry, you should move onto another service like Boom! Mobile or even Straight Talk, as you'll be paying less for more.

PureTalk does feature data plans, but you're paying $45 for 4GB of data. With Boost Mobile, you're receiving Unlimited GB of data for just $5 more. So again, if you're on a budget and don't need a lot of data, then you should consider PureTalk as your service provider.

Remember, when choosing a cheap cell phone plan, it's always best to compare deals from multiple low-cost carriers.
