Total Protect Home Warranty

Total Protect is a home warranty service offered by Cross Country Home Services, which is a well-established home warranty company. It has a large network of professionals, with over 40,000 professional technicians and contractors across the U.S.

One thing Total Protect stresses more than anything is transparency in its policy offerings. On its website it attests to this by stating it won't change your coverage without providing you with notification and giving you options with the change, as well as being happy to supply information on your coverage details. On the surface, it might seem strange that a company is making claims like this on its website, but at the same time, it illustrates why Total Protect strives to do things differently.

Total Protect Plan Offerings

Total Protect offers a variety of plans that are comparable to other providers. You can choose to protect appliances like washing machines, dish washers, and refrigerators. You can choose a plan that covers major home systems like plumbing, electric and air-conditioning. You also have the option to combine the two for complete coverage or add optional coverages like pools to any plan. The pricing and plans are flexible and easy to understand.

The coverages it provides do have differences from other providers though. How it works is you select your deductible; this is the amount of money you pay before a technician repairs the covered part for you. Total Protect has three deductible amounts you can choose from ($75, $100, $125). It's important to keep in mind that the higher the deductible you choose, the lower your monthly premium costs will be.

Another interesting aspect of its coverages is its warranty accounts for items such as rust and corrosion coverage and unknown pre-existing conditions. Some providers won't cover an appliance or home component if its technician discovers there was an unknown pre-existing condition. Total Protect also doesn't require any inspections before issuing policies.

Lastly, Total Protect is unique in that you pay your premiums monthly with it. This differs from other providers who have you pay for a year of coverage up front. Therefore, Total Protect's approach might be more appealing depending on your budgetary needs.

Signing Up for Coverage

Total Protect gives you several options if you want coverage. You can go online to start the process. With this, you select the deductible you would prefer to pay and your zip code. Upon entering this information, the system will populate what the monthly costs are per plan. As you will see if you play around with it, there will be a bit of a difference on costs depending on the amount of the deductible you use.

Once you find the plan and deductible most to your liking, you can choose to buy it. When you do, a summary page will pop up, outlining all the appliances covered under your plan. You will then move on to the checkout part of the transaction, where you supply billing and payment information.

As part of this, you will sign up for your free 15-day review. This review will give you time to browse over the welcome kit materials that arrive in the mail and also give you the option to cancel with no penalties if you decide its coverage isn't best for your needs. Included in your welcome packet will be your enrollment information, which includes the date full coverage starts. This is also when Total Protect charges you. It's important to note that during the free review period you cannot file any claims.

Benefits of Going with Total Protect

Total Protect gives you a wealth of coverage options, including different package types and three deductible amounts. This allows you to toggle with its offerings to find the best package for you. Moreover, unlike other providers that will charge you annually, you pay monthly with Total Protect. If you are on a tighter budget, you'll appreciate this option.

Additionally, customers love the service Total Protect offers. According to ConsumerAffairs.com, Total Protect's customers rated it 4.6 stars out of five. This is an exceptional rating when you consider the many home warranty options available to you. Therefore, if you are looking for a provider that takes care of its customers, Total Protect might be a good option to examine further.

Another unique feature of Total Protect's coverages is it can account for gaps in the warranties offered by appliance manufacturers. Often, an appliance company will cover the costs of replacing a part if the appliance breaks down, but that's where the coverage ends, meaning you would still be on the hook for the labor charges. However, when you buy a Total Protect home warranty policy, it covers labor to a covered appliance thereby giving you that financial protection.

Drawbacks

When you do file claims, you will have to pay a deductible based on the trade of the technician (plumbing, electrical, HVAC). As mentioned previously, the deductibles range from $75 to $125, which is inexpensive. At the same time, other providers like Choice Home Warranty only charge $60 for a service call. This means if you are having to make multiple calls and you have a higher deductible it will equate to more out of pocket expenses compared to other providers.

Support and Tools

Total Protect has a home warranty 101 feature on its website. This is an excellent resource because it contains a wealth of educational tools via a helpful article, an instructional video and a graphic to help you learn more about how home warranties work. For these reasons alone, its website is a great place to turn to learn more on home warranties.

Total Protect also has exceptional support available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. This illustrates its high level of providing the best support for its customers.

Verdict - Good

Total Protect home protection's 180-day workman guarantee is an attractive feature. Moreover, its versatile plan offerings, excellent website resources and 24/7 customer support make it an enticing provider to consider.

I literally just started coverage on 10/28/16 and after being referred to 4 different service providers, my refrigerator was still not fixed. Let me take you through my story. I submitted a claim online on a Monday, 2 days later, no response so I called. (Not sure why I have to call if I already submitted a claim). On the phone, I was told that they needed more information regarding the make and model. I asked in the future where can I enter this information so I won't have to call every time I submit a claim online. The rude service member said she doesn't know because she never submitted a claim online and really had no interest in helping me. Mind you this is my very first claim. I then had to call back the following day, I was told that I could have my fridge evaluated, not fixed in 2 weeks. I stated that I wanted it sooner so they sent me to a contractor. this contractor never responded and now we are into the beginning of the following week. I call back and I am assured that I will be assigned to the right service provider, GE. Now this is the 3rd provider. That same day, I am told that GE cannot provide us service due to our location and now I need to find a provider on my own and pay out of pocket to get reimbursed. (YEAH RIGHT) I am done and do not recommend EVER!!
