Finding the best internet deals shouldn't be a chore. Charter Spectrum simplifies things by offering reliable and affordable cable internet service with no contracts and bundling options to account for your entertainment needs. Here is a closer look at Charter internet service offerings.
Before we begin, it is important to point out this side note: Bright House Network has been acquired fairly recently by Charter Communications. Bright House Network, being the 6th largest cable internet provider in the United States, thus only grew the hold Charter Communications had over ethernet subscribers. Furthermore, Charter also recently acquired Time Warner Cable.

When examining Charter internet plans, what I found was it doesn't offer much in the way of internet packages. However, what it does offer is much more than you would expect. It has two internet plans available, depending on your location, with download speeds of either 60 Mbps or 100 Mbps. These packages include Charter's free internet security suite, a free internet modem--a free internet modem is great, considering some companies charge a rental fee for theirs--and no data caps. So while there are only a couple of plans (or even one) available, they offer many enticing benefits you won't find with comparable providers.
However, understand that there are other fees, such as tax fees, to take into consideration. Alongside internet service, you may come across a county sales tax, a federal excise tax fee, gross receipts tax, local gross receipts tax, local sales tax, and state sales tax.
How Fast is Spectrum Internet?
As noted above, there isn't much in the way of the available Charter high-speed internet packages, so you may have access to only one high-speed internet plan--60 Mbps. You can check out our Spectrum internet speed test to see just how great it is. For most residential needs, this will be more than enough, unless you run a small business out of your home and need many devices connected to the internet at once. However, depending on your location, you may also be eligible for one other speed: 100 Mbps. Unfortunately, you have to be in certain urban areas, like St. Louis, Missouri.
For this reason, Charter Spectrum internet might not be the best option if you require more (or less at a more affordable price) speed. Furthermore, it doesn't have a fiber optic option like what AT&T U-verse high-speed internet offers. AT&T U-verse high-speed internet, by the way, provides its users with up to 1Gbps download speeds and upload speeds. So, there are limitations to its service. What you will find, however, is that for most needs, these two Charter broadband internet speed tiers are generous.
It's important to note you will first want to check if its internet service is available in your area. If it is, you will have access to its 60 Mbps or the 100 Mpbs plan, where you receive a free modem, internet protection suite package and more for a low affordable price. You should also know that there is an early termination fee to worry about if you don't take advantage of 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee.
If you use your service past the Money-Back Guarantee period, you'll face an early termination fee of up to $75, though the amount will decrease monthly over the term of the contract. On the other hand, Charter offers contract buyouts to entice customers. In fact, as part of the contract buyout agreement, Charter will spend up to $500, as long as you opt for a triple play package.
Charter Spectrum offers low pricing for the first year on many of its bundled services. If you are looking to save time and require more than internet service, this is the best option to take. You can also contact it to find out about any promotions it might be running.

Bundling continues to be a great option for customers, as it is often the best way to receive affordable pricing on Charter high-speed internet service and cable. Charter Spectrum bundles any combination of Spectrum TV service, the internet, or voice. Below is a closer look at them:
TV Select + Internet
Charter Spectrum Internet is most affordable when you bundle it with Charter Spectrum TV services. With this package, you receive the 60 Mbps internet service with a free modem, no data caps, and free online protection. What's more, you will have access to Charter cable television service with free DVR service, as well as HD service--something providers like AT&T don't offer their customers typically.
With this plan, you receive a locked in price for the first 12 months, and you can cancel at any time. To learn more about Internet and TV bundles, be sure to check out this useful guide. By the way, TV Select is actually enticing. When comparing to AT&T U-Verse TV, you'll find that the number of channels from Spectrum's TV Select is greater than the number of channels found on the U-Verse TV budget package, which is priced similarly.

Internet + Voice
One of a unique bundling you won't find with other providers is Charter high-speed internet and phone service. The Charter Spectrum service offers this package, where you receive the same blazing internet speeds and free perks, along with unlimited local calling. Similar to the Charter cable TV and internet package, you receive the same price for the first 12 months with no contract requirements. Triple Play Select
The Triple Play Select program combines the internet, home phone, and cable TV service all in one affordable package. You typically receive 60 Mbps on the fastest network available, according to Charter Spectrum. You also have your choice in these Triple Play package offerings of 125+, 175+ or 200+ channels, depending on your viewing habits, unlimited nationwide calling and more for a low monthly price.
Is Spectrum Available Near You?
Spectrum Customer Support
Customer service is a huge part of having internet service, as you want someone who is going to be there for you when you experience technical issues. As noted before, Charter Spectrum offers technical support 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist you.
To contact it, you can call their service reps with Spectrum's customer support numbers or access the online chat feature located on its website. It also has a link available on its contact us section, where you have access to answers to some of the most common questions customers have pertaining to the security suite, internet troubleshooting and more. Charter Spectrum also has video tutorials in this section to help you better understand the features of your internet service and your bill.
One of the big things you should look for from a customer service standpoint are hidden costs. To demonstrate, Comcast charges its customers $15 just to mail them a self-install kit and cancellation fees if a customer discontinues service before the contract expires.
Meanwhile, Charter Spectrum charges $29.99 for professional installation. This means for double the costs, you receive professional service in lieu of having to do it yourself whereas Comcast does offer professional installation, but the costs vary wildly depending on where you live and when you have the services installed. Therefore, for the low upfront cost, Charter Spectrum offers excellent installation services to complement its affordable plans.
The provider doesn't receive high marks from independent agencies. J.D. Power awarded Charter Spectrum a three out of five on its U.S. residential internet service provider customer satisfaction survey. While this is better than the two out of five Comcast received, it indicates there is room for improvement for Charter Spectrum.
I gave the live chat feature a try and it isn't as intuitive or helpful as other service providers such as AT&T. What I discovered was when you asked the live assistant a question, it would read keywords then provide links to a page. For example, I asked it how much it cost to have internet service installed and it sent me to the understand your bill page, where it's just general information on the terms you might find on your bill.
With this in mind, if you have specific questions you need addressing, the best course of action would be to contact them via phone.
Customer reviews and the cable company reputation are two great ways to determine whether or not you might enjoy a Charter internet plan. Charter scored a 63/100 on the American Customer Satisfaction Index, an average score amongst its competitors. On the Better Business Bureau, Charter is an Accredited Business with an A+ score. Keep in mind that the experiences of one customer are not representative of the company as a whole, but it is important to spot potential issues you may have with the company early nonetheless.
Is Spectrum Internet Right For You?
Charter Spectrum delivers fast cable internet connections through its high-performance router. The router also achieves superior range to connect all your devices to WiFi so you can stream movies, listen to music or read the news from any room in your home.
To keep your speeds quick at all times, Charter internet service offers 24/7 technical support. If you are like me, this is a huge bonus because it indicates a cable company's willingness to be on standby when you are experiencing connection issues.
Along with WiFi and technical support, Charter Spectrum gives you peace of mind when you browse online. It achieves this through the Charter security suite package. Included in the Charter security suite are the following items:
- Virus detection: With this feature, you have the virus and spam detection in place so you can browse with confidence knowing the sites you visit are safe, provided you practice safe browsing behaviors such as refraining from clicking on links from unknown email recipients.
- Inbox protection: Speaking of emails, this service works to keep thieves and hackers from accessing your email inbox.
- Parental controls: Being a parent in the digital age can be tricky, so to give you peace of mind, Charter Spectrum allows you to control what your children are able to see. You can block websites based on age level, you access which times of the day they are allowed online and more. You can learn more about parental controls here.
Furthermore, Charter internet plans offer many perks that you won't find with other providers.
Spectrum doesn't require a contract for its internet services.
Along with this, you can try its broadband internet for up to 30 days, and if you find it isn't one of the fastest internet providers for its value, you will receive your money back.
Overall, there is an excellent array of Charter high-speed internet services for you to take advantage of. If you are seeking cheap internet providers, it should be at the top of your list for all you receive through it.
There are many things to like about Charter Spectrum's internet service. For starters, the fact you don't have to sign a contract is huge since many providers do require one. The 30-day money back guarantee is also a big draw. The biggest concern rests with the pricing now that Charter Spectrum took over Time Warner. Pricing aside, if you want the best internet providers, Charter Spectrum should be on your list of companies to look closer at.
