Exede Internet

The award-winning ViaSat-1 is the technology behind Exede satellite internet, all of which boast a pretty impressive 12Mbps download speed and 3Mbps upload speed. The satellite services also come with unmetered bandwidth through the late night free zone feature.

Given that this is a satellite internet service, the speeds that come with the Exede packages are very good, compared with the alternative of dialup internet they are lightning fast. Add to this the generous bandwidth with the late night free zone and competitive pricing, and you have a good, solid satellite internet package that is competitively priced as well as reliable.

Exede Internet Download Speeds and Data Limits

The speeds that are offered through the Exede packages are actually amongst the fastest available from any satellite internet provider and are, in fact, at similar levels to those offered by wired broadband service providers with their mid-range plans.

It has also been noted by the FCC, which carried out third party tests, that the difference between speeds during peak and off-peak times is negligible. The data allowance you get with this service ranges from 10GB to 25GB based on the package you choose.

However, it is important to remember that you also get the free zone with unmetered usage between midnight and 5am. You also have the ability to purchase additional data in 1GB blocks.

On the downside, this provider does not offer a 30 day return policy nor cooling off period in the same way as some competitors do, which some people may find off-putting. While customer service levels are decent, there is no live chat facility offered for those who want to make contact online.

Exede Internet Prices and Fees

Exede tends to be more expensive than others in the satellite internet industry, and their installation fees can be pricey as well ($49 - $99). The average monthly cost of internet service from Exede can range from $49.99 - $129.99 monthly, depending on the plan you opt for.

Additional fees may be applied for the lease of equipment at $9.99 per month, and a charge of $15 for every remaining month should you opt to terminate your contract ahead of schedule.

Exede Internet Customer Service

The customer service from Exede is very good, however, the range of options for getting in touch are less versatile than their competitors'. Surprisingly, Exede Internet's customer service offerings are rather limited for a company of this size. They focus on their telephone support, which is available only for select hours: M - F 5am - 10pm, and Sat/ Sun 9am - 6pm. Tech support is available 24/7. However, for a company with their size and reach, they should offer email and online chat options, as well as 24/7 customer support. So, if this is something you can handle, the high-speed service and level of quality certainly outweigh the negatives.

Exede Satellite Internet Tools and Apps

  • Exede offers exceptionally fast internet service available in a vast number of areas, covering 98% of the US, including all 50 states.
  • 3-Year Price Lock Guarantee secures your rate for three years.
  • Overage fees are not automatically charged.
  • Exede's Free Zone is a feature offered on the Exede Classic, Evolution, or Essential plans that grants unmetered usage of the internet for 5 hours daily.
  • Purchasing additional data is an option in 1GB increments.

Overview of Exede Internet Plans

While Exede offers a great many different plans depending on consumers' needs and the area they are located in, here is a look at what the most popular plans offer:

  • Evolution 10: $49.99 per month. 12 Mbps download rate, 3 Mbps upload rate, and 10 GB/ per month of data allowance, plus unlimited email and web access. Upgrade to 25 Mbps download speed for $59.99/ monthly.
  • Evolution 20: $69.99 per month. 12 Mbps download rate, 3 Mbps upload rate, and 5GB of data allowance, plus unlimited web and email access. Upgrade to 25 Mbps for $79.99/ monthly.
  • Freedom: $99.99 per month. 12 Mbps download rate, upload rate at 3 Mbps, with data at 150 GB. Upgrade to 25 Mbps for $109.99/ monthly.

Exede Discounts Available

Exede offers great discounts when you bundle their services such as DIRECTV, and Voice. Bundling phone service with your internet service can save $120 for your first year. Another great feature they provide is their Price Lock Guarantee, which gives customers the ability to secure their rates for a 3-year period.

Other Factors to Consider

In the market for satellite internet providers, finding a company that offers service as fast, reliable, and affordable as Exede are few and far in between. Their exclusive ViaSat-1 technology is a standout feature, and enough of a reason to choose them. While Exide's prices tend to be on the higher side, their service is very good. They offer a nice range of plans that can work for many different individual situations, and upgrades are possible for a small cost.

Verdict - Great

Given the speeds, features and reliability of Exede satellite internet services, you won't go wrong with this provider. However, you will need to be certain that this is the package you want as you don't have that all-important 30 day return policy.

Exede is all about speed, and considering no one wants to wait a second longer than necessary when on the internet, paying a little more for that instant gratification and convenience is worth it. We are impressed with Exede's large selection of offerings, and their ability to provide unlimited access under certain plans. You simply will not go wrong in signing up for this company's satellite internet services!

1 out of 10 rating 1 NONE Worst Service Ever

This should be a ZERO star rating. In all my years I've never ever seen a worse product, service, company - EVER!

I ordered the 10G "max" package. If you watch movies this won't work for you. Two movies and you've used up you're "allotment". What internet service has a cap on usage? Once you use the 10G you're speed is downgraded.

"Downgraded speed"? Heck the "normal speed" is HORRIBLE! They tell you they're delivering 12M, but try to use it. It's reminds me of 56k speeds. Web pages paint extremely slow.

Speed? If you can get it? Each morning when I work up I had to reboot the modem, reboot my laptops and sometimes they'd come up. Sometimes not.

After a bit more than a week of this HORRID service I tried to find a number to call customer service. I found chat on the website and asked for the number. Why they don't publish it on the website in an easy to find place is obvious - they don't want you to call. I finally got a woman on the phone which was a waste of time. All she did was disagree with me when I said the speeds were too slow. I know what "speedcheck.net" is. It wasn't 12M. She assured me it was. That was a waste of time.

The next morning I woke up, couldn't make it work at all. All the rebooting in the world wouldn't make the modem connect. Frustrated I took the time to really search for the company that owned the cable pedestal at my street... I knew there had to be a better service and I found it! THANKFULLY. So, now I thought I could unwind my contract with Exede since I only had it for a week and that I'd already called and complained about the service.

That's Not Gonna Happen. I called Exede. I explained that the service wasn't meeting my needs. I reminded them that I'd already called and we already had disagreed about the quality of the service. What company disagrees with their customer about quality of service? Anyway, I said I wanted to disconnect but was inquiring about whether they were going to charge me. Shockingly they were! I couldn't believe they were going to charge me the $15/mo for each unused month of the "agreement" (23 months x $15!) or $365!!! Are you serious? You don't deliver the service, disagree with me about the quality, modem doesn't work, and when I want to disconnect it you're going to charge me? The story doesn't end here...

I ended my call with the service representative at that time because I had to run for a meeting so we didn't finalize the "disconnect" When I got home my service had indeed been disconnected. Mind you, I had already paid for the month and they disconnected me without my authorization. Frustrated I called them back and asked that my service be turned back on. More hoops to jump through and then the service agent disconnects me as he's trying to connect me to the activation department! R U serious? Again, I had to run to a meeting but tried again today.

Finally? Not so much.... I got through the activation department today thinking at least I could get the service turned back on for the month I'd already paid for. By then my new service would be installed, I'd pay Exede their $365 early termination fee, and I'd be on my way...but no. It's not over!!! The women tells me that in order to turn it back on I need to sign up for a new 24 month agreement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You simple can not make this story up. I've never seen a more horrible service in all my life.

look, you won't like the service, it's beyond horrible. But if you sign up I warn you, you will like their "service" even less. These people should be out of business.

This was a lesson learned for me. Take my word for it so you don't have to learn this lesson yourself.

1 out of 10 rating 1 Speed is ok Everything

We have had nothing but trouble since we got this internet installed 7 months ago. The installer did not show up the day he was supposed to then called the next day and finally installed a week later. Then we told him numerous times not to put it where he did because the signal would be lost after the trees bloomed, but refused to listen. Finally got someone to come out and move the dish after filing a tech complaint, but then had to argue to get them not to charge me $200 to move it. Got that approved from a supervisor then got my bill and they decided not to apply the $200 credit and tried to charge me for it along with a full month if service which I didn't receive. When I called back abkut the credit now I'm bring told that it has to be approved by the corporate office. Take it from me folks, STAY AWAY FROM EXCEDE!!!

1 out of 10 rating 1 No Pros Slow and metered

$170 a month for slow metered speed that seems to disappear very quickly. Did away with free late nights so you can eat that metered service up fast. Are not willing to help with issues, customer service is the worst I have ever seen.

1 out of 10 rating 1 Better than nothing Absolutly poor service, long outages

Non-existant customer service, if you call with an issue, you only get additional sales pitch for "extra care" service. They calculate bandwidth usage differently than what my router measures, not sure how that can happen, but it does. Terrible latency when connecting to web sites. DONT SUBSCRIBT TO EXEDE!!!!!!! Look at the reviews to see who has good customer service, go with them.

1 out of 10 rating 1 NONE EVERYTHING

Worst company I've ever dealt with. Do not ever ever get internet with these crooks! We never got what we were promised. Always paid more than what we were told. Always had slower speeds than we were supposed to. Were never told all the details when signing up. Then charged several hundred dollars to disconnect and had to uninstall the damn satellite ourselves! S****y customer service all the way around. Did not try to help at all or make things better at all. If I could leave less than half a star I would.

3 out of 10 rating 3 Rural service, fast speed until data runs out too expensive

I pay $60 a month for 10 GB of data, when I had DSL at my previous home it was $45 a month with unlimited use. If I could get any other form of internet out here in BFE I would! Excede, and all satellite internet providers are a ripoff taking advantage of people who have no other internet options

2 out of 10 rating 2 None Lie to you when signing up

Exede lie to you when you are signing up so beware. Apparently I have a limit on my data, which I told was unlimited and I don't even watch movies online, yet my data always runs out withint a couple of weeks. I can't wait to get out of my contract.

Exede internet is worse then dial up. The tech support team are professional and are trying to help, but they are still trying to work out why the speed is so bad.
