Verizon Wireless Review

Last Updated:

Verizon is a major wireless carrier - part of the "big four" – Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile – and are commonly known as the carrier with the best coverage.

In fact, Verizon is a quality carrier, boasting a whopping 142.8 million subscribers as of July 2016.

But whether your loyalty runs deep or you're just checking around it's safe to say that as consumers we've noticed a couple things about this major carrier as well as the other three:

  1. Pricing is through the roof. – the big four often have high price tags associated with them. So we want to prioritize strong talk and LTE network we also want budget-friendly prices.
  2. Reading the fine print is getting annoying - We want clear-cut and simple-to-digest information that will help us decide who the best carrier is.

And that's…. really annoying.

Fortunately, we're here to help. Dive into our Verizon Wireless review to find out what's really going on with coverage, pricing, and plans.

Key Considerations When Choosing Verizon

Before you dive into any of our big four reviews it's important to decide what you want out of a carrier. So try answering these questions first:

Verizon Pricing: Is it Competitive?

Verizon is often known for its high prices. But let's see how Verizon plans compare in terms of unlimited plans to the other three major carriers:

CarrierNetwork CoverageData LimitMonthly PriceAnnual Price

Sprint

Sprint 4G LTEUnlimited*$60$720

Verizon

Verizon 4G LTEUnlimited*$75$900

T-Mobile

T-Mobile 4G LTEUnlimited*$70$840

AT&T

AT&T 4G LTEUnlimited*$75$900

Overall, Verizon is tied with AT&T for the most expensive unlimited plan and that tends to be the theme amongst their other plan prices. But get this, the average Verizon user on an unlimited plan only uses around 4GB of data per month. Meaning, they're severely overpaying.

If you're currently a Verizon customer you can look at your past bill breakdowns to see if you're one of these people. Or you can go to our data usage calculator to see how much data you personally need.

Interested in learning more about their other plans? We've got you covered:

Coverage

When it comes to Verizon 4G LTE Data Coverage, you can expect most of the United States to be covered unlike the coverage of Verizon's competition. Unfortunately, Alaska, as well as some of Maine, West Virginia, and the Western U.S. do not have access to 4G LTE network.

That being said, the network covers a grand total of 2.4 million square miles, meaning that the provider focuses on rural wireless coverage. In fact, Verizon Wireless is known as a major rural wireless provider. Keep in mind that T-Mobile, another major carrier, covers only 1.4 million miles. You can see how we rank which carrier has the best coverage in our analysis here.Verizon Coverage Map

Keep Your Verizon Coverage, Pay Less

If Verizon is the right fit for you in every area except for the price tag – don't fret – there are still plenty of options available when you consider Verizon MVNOs.

CarrierNetwork CoverageData LimitMonthly PriceAnnual Price
VerizonVerizon 4G LTEUnlimited*$75$900
US MobileVerizon 4G LTEUnlimited*$40$480
Saving$35$420
* Avg Verizon user on unlimited plan uses 4GB data per month

That's right, with a Verizon MVNO you can enjoy the saver Verizon 4G LTE coverage as every Verizon customer but at a fraction of the cost.

This is because MVNOs buy service in bulk from the big four networks and resell it to consumers at a lower cost. They're able to do so because they don't spend the millions of dollars in advertising per year like the big four and they also don't have a lot of brick-and-mortars to run which saves them A LOT of money. In fact, a lot of them operate solely online.
