Verizon Wireless Plans
Verizon Wireless carries quite a few plans that are suitable for just about everyone in terms of lifestyle and needs. Verizon Wireless released a set of new plans back in July 2016, complete with welcoming benefits, but the provider has since downgrading, providing customers with what it feels is essential.
While there are a variety of wireless service plans available to you, including Verizon Unlimited, Verizon international, and prepaid cell phone plans, they aren't exactly cheap compared to the plans belonging to other major cell phone providers (or even Verizon's MVNOs, such as US Mobile).
Verizon Monthly Plans
The new Verizon Plans are measured in both "sizes" and data amounts, ranging from "Small" to "Unlimited." These new plans come with benefits that the older plans fail to have, including:
- Carryover Data: which allows you to use your currently unused data until the end of the following month.
- Safety Mode: which lets you use data even after you consume all of your data for the month. However, you will be able to connect to the data service using a reduced speed.
Verizon Family Plans
Not interested in Verizon's individual plans? Well, unlike some of the T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint family plans, Verizon's family plans are actually integrated into the new Verizon plans. You can conveniently add up to ten lines to your plan.

Verizon Prepaid Plans
Prepay cell phone plans are flexible and do not require any sort of commitment. There are four types of prepaid cell phone plans offered by Verizon: smartphone plans, basic phone plans, data device plans, or bring your own phone plans (BYOP).
The smartphone prepaid cell phone plans come with either 2GB, 5GB, 10GB, or Unlimited amounts of high-speed data, which can carry over if you renew your plan, alongside unlimited US talk and text, "Always-on Data" that allows you to use reduced data speeds of up to 128kps, mobile hotspot, and unlimited text from the U.S. to over 200 countries. The 10GB and Unlimited plans offer an additional incentive: unlimited talk to Mexico and Canada.
- The basic phone plan includes unlimited talk and text, as well as mobile web.
- Then there is the prepaid data device plan, which allows you to use your data device wherever for a certain fee per week.
- And finally, you can bring your own eligible device and activate it with a 4G LTE Sim Activation Kit for a fee, which includes one SIM Card and the first month of service.
Bring Your Own Device plans may have different terms and conditions compared to other plans carriers offer. As a quick note, with Verizon prepaid wireless service, you can opt for a 4G LTE SIM activation kit, which comes with one SIM Card, the first month of service, the unlimited talk, text, and 2GB of data service plan at a monthly fee, and SIM Card adapters that will fit to any Verizon Wireless 4G LTE device.

Verizon Unlimited Plans
Verizon has its own set of unlimited plans, though it is a little more expensive compared to the unlimited plans of Verizon's competitors. However, with the unlimited plan, you'll not receive quality and coverage that is only expected of Verizon, but you'll also be able to take advantage of "unlimited" talk and text, HD video streaming, mobile hotspot, and Mexico and Canada service. By "unlimited," your data will be throttled after 22GB of usage.

Verizon Data Plans
Verizon offers Data Only plans for tablets, hotspots (you can view and compare Verizon mobile hotspot plans here), and other network-capable gadgets. There is a total of 16 data-only plans, ranging from 2GB to 100GB.
Like other wireless carriers with tablet data plans, you can add a tablet, hotspot, or any other connected device to the service for a small fee.
There is also Verizon international to consider. First of all, Verizon apparently offers coverage in over 99 percent of countries visited by travelers. There are a few plans to take into consideration - cruise ship rates, pay as you go, monthly international travel (in over 140 countries), and daily international travel (via TravelPass) - but I won't delve into them specifically, as that is for another article.
However, I should make a note regarding international SIM cards and local SIM cards. With Verizon, you can stick with your current SIM card if you have a device that can be used outside of the US. Devices eligible are called World Devices and are built with more than just CDMA technology but also 4G LTE, Dual Band GSM, Quad-Band GSM, or UMTS capabilities.
Be sure to check whether or not your phone is able to work in a specific country. If your phone is unable to work in a specific country, you can purchase either an international SIM card or a local SIM card after you land in the country (or you can always order one).
However, you may be stuck with international roaming charges if you do not purchase a specified plan or pass. These international roaming charges can be high, so please review the prices before you set off outside the country.

Verizon Wireless offers a variety of smartphones, basic phones, tablets, and prepaid devices. There are even sections online dedicated specific phones, such as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus! Android phones, including the Samsung Galaxy lineup, is also there for you to browse through. I'm not talking about older models of Android phones either.
Compare: Verizon Prepaid Phones
You'll find the latest and greatest lineups, including the Samsung Galaxy phones. Yet, that's not all that Verizon sells. The carrier also displays mobile hotspots, home and office supplies, and wearable tech.
When referring to smartphones, the carrier sells products that are eligible for either monthly payment or prepaid plans. You can also buy a phone at full retail price. Not all of the phones are new, either; you can also obtain a phone that is certified pre-owned.
A customer of Verizon has access to lots of brands and models, including the Google Pixel, the latest iPhone, or the newest Galaxy phone. If you're not a fan of those brands (or models), the company also has LG, HTC, Microsoft, Motorola and even BlackBerry phones.

Cell phone insurance may be important to adopt, depending on your phone's model and age. Verizon offers equipment protection and cell phone insurance for phones that either face the unfortunate fate of an accident or become lost, stolen, or defective after the manufacturer warranty expires. You can opt for either Total Mobile Protection Device insurance, Total Equipment Coverage, Wireless Phone Protection, or simply an extended warranty.
You can opt for either Total Mobile Protection Device insurance, Total Equipment Coverage, Wireless Phone Protection, or simply an extended warranty.
These coverage plans can only be applied if you enroll within 30 days of doing the following, depending on the plan: activating a new account, upgrading to a new device on an existing line, or adding a new line of service to an existing account. The plans provide coverage for loss, theft, damage (which may or may not include water damage), and post-warranty defects.
- The Total Mobile Protection Device Insurance is the most comprehensive coverage offered, granting same-day repair or next day delivery in most cases and a 24/7 claims service.
- Total Equipment Coverage provides coverage for a lost, stolen, post-defected or broken device. You can receive up to three new or "Certified Like-New" replacements within a 12-month period with this service.
- Wireless Phone Protection covers the phone if it is lost, stolen, or damaged, but not if it experiences issues after the expiration of its warranty. Refer to Total Equipment Coverage for replacement details.
- Finally, there is Extended Warranty protection, which covers a phone after the warranty expires, but not if it is lost, stolen, or damaged.
Curious about activating a phone with Verizon's service? I have you covered there. There are several ways to activate a phone, but it depends on the situation you're in - for instance, you might be activating a phone through Verizon's bring your own program. In that case, your phone may require unlocking - which is a simple task to perform - before the activation process. Verizon has a FAQ that details the activation process for various circumstances, but generally speaking, you can activate your phone utilizing the following methods:
- Using the My Verizon service
- Using the Online Activation page
- Call 1-877-807-4646
- (If 3G) Complete the Over-the-Air Activation process
Verizon offers a feature called Mobile Hotspot, which allows you to share your data with other devices so that they can connect to the internet. Most modern smartphones and tablets have a built-in Mobile Hotspot - which may be dubbed differently - feature, which you can activate with ease. Mobile Hotspot is automatically included at no charge with any of the currently available plans. However, you may be charged monthly if you're on a grandfathered plan.
Verizon conveniently offers devices - like the Jetpack - that act only as Mobile Hotspots. Depending on the device, you can use up to ten devices at a time with the hotspot.

Verizon offers a 4G LTE SIM card, which contains your subscriber profile. The SIM card (which you can learn more about with our SIM card guide) not only includes details about your plan and features but also gives you access to Verizon's 4G CDMA network. If you plan to migrate to Verizon's service from another provider, then - if your phone is compatible with Verizon's network - you can obtain a SIM card at no charge.
However, you can also obtain a prepaid SIM card, which includes a month's worth of Verizon service, for a fee. You might wonder, "Can I transfer my phone number to Verizon Wireless?" Well, the good news is that you can very well transfer your phone number to the major wireless provider, but only if the phone number is portable.

Verizon Deals, Promotions & Discounts
Verizon provides you with a variety of incentives that reward you for your loyalty.
Verizon sometimes offers the latest phones, such as the iPhone, for discounted rates. These same phones can be obtained for free with an eligible trade-in, according to another promotion. Verizon also might have a long-running promotion, such as receiving a free Gear VR with the purchase of a Galaxy S7 or S7 edge.
Furthermore, Verizon attempts to lure in customers to its other programs, such as Verizon Selects, which aims to make marketing more personalized. If you sign up for Verizon Selects, you'll receive an additional GB of data for free.
Of course, promotions aren't the only enticing feature of Verizon. Verizon also offers employee discounts (schools fall under employee discounts, by the way) and a Verizon Smart Rewards program, which grants you points for your loyalty to Verizon. These points can be used to enter sweepstakes, take part in auctions, or obtain merchandise.
For more information on these deals, please refer to our guide on Verizon's deals and promotions.
Verizon Wireless Coverage Map
When it comes to Verizon 4G LTE Data Coverage, you can expect most of the United States to be covered unlike the coverage of Verizon's competition. Unfortunately, Alaska, as well as some of Maine, West Virginia, and the Western U.S. do not have access to 4G LTE network.
That being said, the network covers a grand total of 2.4 million square miles, meaning that the provider focuses on rural wireless coverage. In fact, Verizon Wireless is known as a major rural wireless provider. Keep in mind that T-Mobile, another major carrier, covers only 1.4 million miles. You can see how we rank which carrier has the best coverage in our analysis here.
Verizon Offers Dedicated Customer Support
Verizon's customer support is rather high-quality, which is a huge positive for the network, considering the fact that the service is more expensive compared to the average carrier. Overall, Verizon's customer representatives will provide you with exceptional service.
There are several ways to receive support. You can:
- Rely on the troubleshooting and general information FAQs Verizon provides
- Visit the community forum
- Contact them via Twitter or Facebook
- Visit a store
- Connect with Verizon via chat
- Call the customer service line
Customer reviews and company reputation are two great ways to determine whether or not you might enjoy a Verizon cell phone plan. Verizon scored a 71/100 on the American Customer Satisfaction Index, which is an average score when compared to competitors. On the Better Business Bureau, Verizon is an Accredited Business with an A+ score. Trustpilot, a website that ranks companies purely from customer reviews, rates Verizon a 3.7/10. Keep in mind that the experiences of one customer are not representative of the company as a whole, but it is important to spot potential issues you may have with the company early nonetheless.
How to Change Your APN Settings
Verizon Wireless offers fantastic quality, despite its steeper-than-average prices even compared to other major wireless providers and MVNOs such as T-Mobile and Straight Talk. There are a vast array of plans to choose from, with a myriad of benefits attached. Not only that, but Verizon offers alluring promotions and discounts.
Furthermore, its 4G LTE network covers the majority of the United States. With its quality customer support, phone selection, and plans, it's no wonder why it's the largest network in the United States.
