Charter Home Phone
Charter is a little more complicated compared to its rivals due to its merge with Time Warner Cable. As a result, while some areas may offer Spectrum Voice, other areas may feature phone service through Time Warner Cable via Charter's site.
However, I'm going to focus strictly on Spectrum Voice in this review. It's also important to note that Charter shines brightly compared to its competitors because it emphasizes "no contract." To complement the "no contract" emphasis, Charter offers the ability to buy out your old provider's contract. That's right - Charter will pay off your old company's early termination fees up to $500. However, to qualify, and this isn't exactly mentioned until the process is explained, you must install and maintain a Triple Play package.

Charter also offers a 30-day money back guarantee, meaning that if you're not completely satisfied with your Charter experience within the first thirty days of service, you'll receive your money back. Additionally, the provider also offers the Service Experience Guarantee. Charter promises to reach your residence during the scheduled arrival window or you'll qualify for a $20 credit.

Charter Spectrum Voice, which is set at an affordable fee per month, sports over 18 popular calling features, as well as unlimited local and long distance calling in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands, Wake, and the Mariana Islands. Charter also claims no added fees like the phone company charges.
Charter Voice also keeps your family in mind. In the event of an emergency. Spectrum Voice provides enhanced 911 services. Furthermore, the service will work with most monitored home security systems.
Additionally, Spectrum Voice also works during a power outage with the appropriate backup battery installed. This battery, which Charter Spectrum provides for an additional cost, will provide you and your family with up to eight hours of standby and five hours of talk time, even during a power outage.
ProTip: Spectrum Voice is also available for those in the business administration field (or just in business). With Charter Business, you'll be able to thrust your business administration into reliable communication via Charter Voice and Business Internet. Furthermore, Charter Business promises no hidden fees, no contracts, and unlimited calling.
Charter Spectrum Voice service provides more than just unlimited talk. In fact, it bears quite a few features for the home phone:
- Call Waiting
- Caller ID
- Call Waiting with Caller ID
- All Call Forwarding
- Selective Call Forwarding
- Block Anonymous Calls
- Block Unwanted Callers
- VIP Ringing
- Speed Dial
- Accept Selected Callers
- Three-Way Calling
- Repeat Dialing
- Voice Online Manager
- Readable Voicemail
Two features - Repeat Dialing and VIP Ringing - more than likely need a quick explanation. Repeat Dialing, which is an incredibly interesting feature, allows you to automatically redial a busy phone number for you and then notifies you when the phone number is no longer busy so you can make a proper call to the number.
However, the service is a pay-per-use service only. For every time you use the feature, you will be charged 90 cents until you reached the maximum charge of $9 per month.
Then there is VIP Ringing, which allows you to apply a distinctive ring to numbers you select. Finally, the service offers free 411 Directory Assistance and Private Listing.
You can opt into Charter Spectrum Voice International, which features the ability to call to 70 destinations: most of Europe, India, Hong Kong, and Norway. Furthermore, you only pay low per-minute rates to the rest of the world. Best of all, there are no monthly caps to consider.
Deals and Plans
As mentioned, there is only one Charter Internet and voice package available, but the Spectrum Internet service offers speeds beginning at 60 Mbps, free online protection with Security Suite, a free Internet modem. Furthermore, there are no data caps or extra fees with Spectrum Internet.
Alongside Spectrum Internet is Spectrum Voice, which, as previously stated, offers unlimited local and long distance calling to U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands numbers.
Of course, you can always consider the Triple Play Packages, which combine Spectrum TV, Charter Internet, and Charter phone service into a special bundle price.
There are three tiers of Triple Play bundles: Triple Play Select, Triple Play Silver, and Triple Play Gold.
All three packages provide you with free HD, as well as free DVR service (i.e. free TV equipment). And free DVR service, alongside free HD and free TV equipment installation, can be hard to pass up. The only difference between these packages is the number of channels offered, as all three bundles contain 60 Mbps high-speed Internet service and unlimited nationwide calling, complete with 18 (or more) popular features.
Do note that after one year, standard rates will apply, and the standard rate can be a little hefty, so be sure to check the full price of the bundle after the year (unless you negotiate for a more affordable rate, which is very possible).
