Mint Mobile isn't the oldest carrier in the wireless game but it is definitely revolutionizing how we buy cell phone service. Mint is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator, or MVNO, which is a smaller carrier that buys space on the four major networks and sells it to you at a better price than the big guys.
Mint Mobile, which has headquarters in both California and New York, was founded in 2016 under the name Mint SIM. This mobile provider has taken the tried and true "buy more save more" concept and applied it to wireless service. The service runs on the nationwide 4G LTE T-Mobile network. It's sold in three-month packages and the more you buy at once, the lower your monthly plan rate will be.

While you won't find the extremely flexible custom options offered by some MVNOs, like Tello, you will find a range of cell phone plans to fit almost anyone's needs. The smallest plan comes in at 2 GB of data, next you've got a 5 GB plan, and at the top a 10 GB plan.
Every plan comes with unlimited talk and text, including service to Canada and Mexico. Mint offers add-ons too, like more data and international roaming.
If this sounds like a great deal, it is. Keep reading to find out more in our full Mint Mobile review.

Mint Mobile Pricing: Is It Competitive?
|Carrier||Network Coverage||Data Limit||Monthly Price||Annual Price|
|T-Mobile||T-Mobile 4G LTE||Unlimited*||$70||$840|
|Mint Mobile||T-Mobile 4G LTE||10GB||$25||$300|
|* Avg. T-Mobile unlimited plan customer uses 6GB data|
What's important to remember is that even though you'll get one of the cheapest plans out there with Mint, you won't sacrifice quality.
You'll get the full power behind T-Mobile, considered the fastest 4G network in America (OpenSignal). There's no question that Mint Mobile has extremely competitive pricing for a wide range of customer needs.
Even though the carrier doesn't offer an unlimited data plan, you'll still save over the big guys just by adding more data to your Mint plan when necessary.
As I said at the top of the review, Mint Mobile runs on the nationwide T-Mobile network. You won't be able to use a T-Mobile SIM card though. Once you decide on a plan you'll order a Mint Mobile SIM card and pop it into your phone. The SIM card kit is included in your plan at no extra charge.
T-Mobile provides strong 4G LTE coverage in most populated areas. Their signal is strongest in metropolitan areas, with some rural locations struggling a bit. Overall the network covers most residents of the US with a good signal.
Mint Mobile Phone Options
When this carrier first started out as Mint SIM, they did not sell devices. That's changed now, however. The company sells a wide selection of smartphones to fit any budget. Choices include the latest iPhones and Android phones, like the Samsung Galaxy series. They also offer device financing through SmartPay.
The cheapest option is to bring your own GSM phone (meaning a device that's compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile). Just be sure your phone is unlocked and that you've got it set to the correct Mint Mobile APN settings.
If you don't have a compatible phone or you just want to upgrade, the best option is to buy a refurbished phone. Compare prices and features quickly and easily with our cell phone comparison engine. You can save over 50% on top smartphones from reputable sellers.
